Hey all, just wanted to see general thoughts on the offseason and what people would like to see. While I'm all for the sustainability of the franchise, a part of me feels as if a move should be made to try to win now. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive, and am hopeful that both can be done. My personal thoughts:
Draft a big and backup 2 guard with the first 2 picks, and take a draft/stash with 32. I'd like to see potentially Zeller, McCollum, MCW, or Plumlee with 12, and depending on the first pick, Muscala, Hardaway Jr. or others with 29. Unless picks aren't for the team b/c....
Trade Perkins....I am partially at the point of no return with this, where I just feel like its best even if you can't get a perfect deal to just get the contract off the books. Potentially deal to get a big back, which would be ideal, I still like Gortat in a PHX deal, I think they would do something as well for Perk/picks. If you essentially get anyone, its an upgrade, and either way you can get an MLE center that is better/comparable on defense and better offensively...Dalembert, Mozgov, Zaza, heck nearly anyone, I just don't want Perk.
Martin....only for a big drop in price, honestly I'd go w/ Reggie or Lamb, and develop some guys, its why they are on the team
Finally, find a coach to replace Mo Cheeks...I saw Kevin Olie's name floated out there, and think an ex player would be good, not really sure of names out there
Just wanted to see if anyone had thoughts, as I really like this team and want to see it succeed for the long term, but think the weapons are there now to win next season. After the finals, I want more postseason hoops next year!

Fire Brooks and pay Phil Jackson $10M a year as new head coach.
Have Jackson give Perkins a book that enables Perkins to reach his full potential.
Trade draft picks or any young players for a center with more skill and potential than Perkins.
Release Thabeet and Orton.
Sign as many 3 point shooting veterans as possible regardless of tax implications.
Marvel at how well Durant & Westbrook play in the Triangle.
Watch Jackson mind game Lebron James, out coach Spoelstra and win a championship.

I did say that I wanted long term success and thought the team could remain sustainable too man!

Winning a championship could provide the most important ingredient of sustainable success for the team which is giving a reason for Durant and Westbrook to stay.
Jackson could groom an assistant to take over eventually.
The team would pay some luxury tax, but not enough to really hurt through Durant's current contract.
Sustsained!

Re: Anyone's Thoughts on Win Now...
At this point I think we all know the options, understand the constraints, know what's most likely to happen, and aren't sure what the right decision would be. Personally, I've grown extremely fond of lamb and wouldn't trade him for any realistic package. If pho was willing to go gortat for perk/12/29 I'd give it a long hard thought and probably pull the trigger, banking on next years Dallas pick to get a center of the future (though the draft probably won't have as many real prospects at the position).
Durant seems genuinely happy to be here and I couldn't foresee him leaving after this contract, though you never actually know. As long as KD stays I doubt Russ leaves either.
Our post options would leave a lot to be desired in the triangle and the offense isn't a problem anyway, thabo and perk are. Thabo because he regressed to the old thabo in the playoffs and perk because he's perk. With a halfway competent center we'd run away and hide from the rest of the league in terms of offensive efficiency.
I am interested too see how much better brooks would be thought of if Perkins wasnt on the team. He's done a great job developing players, but now that he's too loyal he's almost outlived his usefulness. If he has lamb up to speed by the end of next year but continues to get out coached in the playoffs it will be time for him to go.

“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Try and get Perk off the books. Swoop in on pierce and KG will waive his NTC. Ainge is looking for young players and picks.
Westbrook/jackson
Thabo/pierce
durant/pierce
IBaka/KG
KG/collison
In playoffs:
Westbrook
Pierce
Durant
Ibaka
Garnett......................2014 champs.

He's a great coach for all of the non-game/series parts of coaching. He does well with the players, the personalities, media, etc. He just does a poor job of all of the matchups/X & Os parts of basketball. I like him well enough and don't know how much better the Thunder could do with the options on the market, but by no means do I consider him a good in-game basketball coach.
