Brook Lopez has another surgery on right foot

Post#1 » by NyCeEvO » Mon Jun 24, 2013 2:38 pm

The Brooklyn Nets announced that Brook Lopez had a bent screw in his foot replaced and will resume basketball activities in August.

From Billy King:

"During the course of Brook’s postseason physical, our doctors found that the screw in his surgically repaired right foot had bent. The screw was subsequently replaced, and Brook should resume basketball-related activities in August."

via http://www.netsdaily.com/2013/6/24/4458 ... -in-august

This is not good news. This is the third surgery on his foot and the screw that was bent was titanium. Idk how that happens, but I don't like this one bit.

It would be good to know if the screw bent slowly over time or from sudden impact. Either way, this does not bode well for long term health issues.

Why did Billy King make this announcement now 3 days before the draft on Thursday ?

If we were planning to move up in the draft or make a trade I think the asking price might go way up now.

Hopefully Lopez will be OK and if he isn't that JJ deal with the swap of draft picks with Atlanta, next season and the one after that, might come back to haunt us big time.

I'd worry if they had to do it during the season which could have affected his play and a possible infection.

Long as it's only replacing the screw, I'm not too worried. He can resume basketball activites in August.

It is concerning but at least it's not another fracture. When I saw the WT headline, I feared the worst. It does suck that he won't be able to play any basketball till August but as long as he's healthy next season, it's not that big of a deal. Hopefully it doesn't set back his conditioning.

Well I hope his foot will be okay. He didn't seem to be laboring during the season.

While he's in the hospital, he should also have his backbone and heart checked out

its a replacement of a titanium screw... how it got bent, go ask nasa...lol....

so looking at it half full, its a screw replacement and not a tear or fracture......

Lets hope he heals up fully and gets ready to beef up... ****, this better not delay the beefing! lol

More important than ever to

a. Draft a C like Dieng, Withey or Gobert
b. pray Blatche resigns

And I would also explore a trade for KG, Nene, Okafor, Varejao, McGee, P.Gasol or dare I say Andrea Bar... never mind.

Yeah, that's the weird part. I'd like to know how it became bent.

It's not a super important question, but still a cause for concern nonetheless.

Well, he's still walking around in the boot so I don't see why he'd be unable to hit the weights.

Blatche has been working out with Deron at PNY Center regularly and still lives in NJ. Don't think he's going anywhere unless someone throws a huge offer at him and I doubt it.

It's in his best interest to sign for the vet min anyhow.

Not sure I like him but we have to be realistic about what HBAP could get us. It may not even take the BAP part.

I'm hoping that his reputation for soliciting hookers plays into our favor, and teams stay away. I'm not sure how someone doesn't at least offer him something, the guy had a decent season for us.

Looks like the black cloud followed us over from Jersey.......Unbelievable

I hope he can make a full recovery. Say what you want about the guy but if we lose him were in trouble.

It's not really a black cloud, nor is the franchise cursed, it's just injuries are part of the game, we apparently can say now we have a vey suspect medical staff and this team is mismanaged horribly.

Those pick swap options are really scary. I'd probably quite literally vomit all over my floor the moment reality sunk in that we wound up the 11th overall pick, jumped to 2nd overall and had to ship that to Atlanta for the 8th overall pick. The difference between the 2nd and 8th overall pick, or most any combination of top 3 lotto compared to later lotto is astounding in how a player pans out and their realistic ceiling and chance of hitting it.

That's an argument that irked me from the pro-Billy/FO crowd when we uncovered the pick swap conspiracy... they kept saying how who cares, even if we wind up lotto so will Atlanta and then had the stupidity to argue who cares if we jumped top 3 and only had to swap back to say somewhere between 6 and 9? I'll tell you who cares... the team that realizes instead of drafting the next Deron, or CP3, or Melo, or Gasol, or Beal or Harden, is instead going to wind up with Patrick O'Bryant or Jordan Hill, Channing Frye or TJ Ford. Gross.

Even from a common sense perspective, why wouldn't you care that you're getting a worse draft pick for no reason? Even if we dropped from #4 to #5, that's still giving up a higher pick for no good reason, and that sucks.

And did anyone find the timing of this news a little peculiar?

I know I'm reaching a bit here, but the conspiracy theorist in me feels like, Billy has to reveal anything medical to any team he's discussing Brook Lopez trades with behind closed doors anyway, so he's foreshadowing publicly to soften the blow for Nets fans in case they don't like the deal he agrees to when he trades Brook this offseason.
