BOS/SAC scenario

Post#1 » by Andrew McCeltic » Sun Jun 30, 2013 7:01 pm

Rumor on the C's board that Evans will meet with us as a free agent, we're rebuilding, so I was trying to think of a scenario that would help both teams, but don't know if I got past my Celtics bias enough-

We have a trade exception from Brooklyn for about 8 million, we could send you that for Evans in a sign-and-trade. We then send you Rondo for Cousins straight up, or maybe with Salmons' contract included.

Why I think it works for Boston:
We get a building block center to rebuild with, we get a chance to put Evans in a different role and hope he hits his stride.

Why I think it works for you:
You get a shiny, marketable Rondo/Mclemore backcourt. You lose the two most famous, frustrating hold-overs from previous ownership and management. You get an 8 million trade exception to add a nice player. And if my math is right, you still have the cap room to replace Cousins with Al Jefferson or Andrew Bynum.

I'm sure the Kings would want to team Rondo up with Cousins.

Absolutely not. Cousins is not going anywhere. Promising young centers are one of the rarest commodities in this league. Although Rondo is an elite PG, I'd only consider bringing him in to play alongside Cousins, not through a trade for Cousins. I consider Cousins untouchable for all practical purposes, meaning the only deals I'd accept for him are deals that other teams absolutely would not consider.

Not interested in a Rondo For DMC trade. I will take the younger, bigger, and healthier player with attitude problems. And we could get more than cap space for trading tyreke.

So much wrong with this idea.

For starters, you don't have trade exceptions AND cap space, you have 1 or the other. So trading Evans for a TE does nothing for the Kings. It's just helping Boston take one of our assets for nothing.

Secondly, there's no way in hell I'd consider Cousins for Rondo straight up (or with a bad contract thrown in). Rondo plays one of the most stacked positions in the league, he's a guy who relies on his athleticism (and this coming off a blown knee), and he has a history of not being the nicest guy to deal with.

Cousins and Rondo in Sacramento uniforms I'm listening very closely, but the scenario given above to get rid of Cousins to get Rondo is a BIG NO from me, and most, if not all Kings fans.

Exactly, no space in Boston to even sign Reke and unless he settles for something as small as that trade exception there is no way they can get him. If anything this might be that forever alluded to Evans for Rondo deal via sign and trade. Ainge has been in love with Evans from day 1. Could be an interesting move for the Kings. Rather have Iggy myself. Too unrealistic to get both? 8-)

if he was to sign with boston, what about a sign and trade with tyreke and john salmons(1m buyout) for rondo and we'll take on courtney lees contract? giving you guys some cap relief after this season or you can amnesty salmons(although im nt sure if he can be amnesied if hes traded)...and we'll throw in jimmer too.

Cousins for Rondo? Really? How about the Kings throw in three first round picks with Cousins, you know, to even the trade out. SMH
