Possible deal with Houston for Jeremy Lin

Post#1 » by sogood » Mon Jul 1, 2013 1:36 am

Ken Berger @KBergCBS

Another possible landing spot for Jeremy Lin is Detroit, source says. Rockets would acquire Jose Calderon in sign-and-trade in such a deal.

This is a worse idea than Josh Smith.

I'd rather have Lin than Calderon. If we get Iguodala, then I'm OK with that move (have no idea how the salary cap would work in that scenario). But I don't want Lin to be "the guy" we get this summer.

I wouldnt mind Calderon for Lin, especially if we could milk Houston for T. Jones as well. Lin is an adequate PG, he's currently better than Brandon Knight.

But, I have a feeling that we will be linked to EVERY available PG, SG, SF because we have capspace and we need to upgrade at those positions

Lin does nothing better than Calderon.

I agree with this. Lin plays on both ends of the floor. But, I wouldn't consider him an elite PG. I also hate his poison pill contract, which I believe is for the 2014/15 season.

Overall, if we can acquire him for simply signing and trading Calderon, that's a solid get. I never bought into "Linsanity". Hmm....I have mixed feelings on this rumor. I guess I'll address it further if it actually comes to fruition.

Wouldn't mind doing this trade for one reason, if he does good this season then going into next season he is gonna be an expiring contract and might get us something good with a trade.

I would love this trade, I don't want Calderon, Lin is the bonus, he could get our team some publicity on the market finally. The fact that Berger already knows the details of a the deal and it being a sign and trade, makes me think it is actually being discussed and not just a hypothetical.

With that being said, I agree, I want Lin but I someone else in free agency as well, Lin can't be "our guy" for the 2013 free agency

If we can also get Terrance Jones/Royce White and Thomas Robinson, then why not

Isn't he a RFA? If so, Detroit could probably price him outside of Houston's budget.

The question would be if he was worth it?

I'd only do it if we got Parsons.

No way if we aren't getting him in the deal.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the "poison pill" doesn't apply to us - it was only relevant to someone matching his contract in RFA (meaning: New York Knicks). We would have to pay him his standard 8 mil a year, which is what Houston paid last year.
