Simple 4 way trade (TOR/IND/GS/MIN)

Simple trade idea that addresses a few needs. Camby wants out of Toronto, there seems to be some positive feedback from Indy fans on acquiring him as a backup big, Minny wants to dump Ridnour, and GS could use an extra wing off the bench now that their backup PG/C spots are taken care of and could use an extra pick.

Toronto trades:
Marcus Camby

Toronto receives:
Luke Ridnour

IND trades:
Gerald Green

IND receives:
Marcus Camby

GS trades:
nothing (uses $4M TPE)

GS receives:
Gerald Green
2014 2nd round pick from New Orleans

MIN trades:
Luke Ridnour
2014 2nd round pick from New Orleans

MIN receives:
TPE worth approx. $4M

We don't really need an extra wing (Klay, Iggy and Barnes should all be playing 30+ mpg, and behind them we have Draymond Green and Kent Bazemore), and I think we'd want more than a 2nd rounder to take on that salary.

If we're talking Green and Indy's 2014 1st then I think we'd be in business.

For 2 years and $3.5M per, it's not a terrible contract for bench depth (and as many minutes as those three are likely to take, getting an extra wing on a cheap deal couldn't hurt).

That said, if GS really has no interest, I wonder if the 4th team shouldn't be New York, where they get Green. It could all be rolled into the Bargnani trade (and the Copeland and Hansbrough signings could be made into sign and trades so teams get TPEs). New York can keep the OKC 2nd rounder they're supposedly sending the Raptors, and Toronto can take the 2014 2nd rounder from Minny.

No 1st right now. 2 2nds for cap space, then sure. Heck, one of them would be your own from the Lou/Rush swap.

Worst case, we could stretch him next year and have him bit for only $1.1m.

Don't see why MN should be expected to add a pick simply to dump Rindour's contract. Toronto should be adding the pick they are getting the upgrade from Camby to Ridnour.

If it's for the sake of using the TPE or capspace, would Memphis work? They still have that Rudy Gay TPE

Suppose they could use Green since they're quite thin at the guard spot. Unless Poindexter has them covered in that position, I think they only have their draft pick Franklin.

I think I'd settle for our 2nd back and another from Indiana

Deal. We've replaced him and wouldn't mind a bit of space and another roster spot to find a vet big man for 1 year.

Interesting. If Indy is willing to do that, then that frees up space under the tax to do a Camby-Hansbrough S&T if that's of interest.

Nah. I'd prefer the cap space and to find a more suitable backup post option. Unless you were paying us as you'd essentially be clearing Cambys salary off the books, much as we'd be paying to clear Greens salary. We'd probably prefer to offer Brand a one year $2.15m deal of what we have left under the MLE. Green, we wouldn't have the $1m buyout for Camby on the books next year.

I'm all for the Indy part of this. I started thinking about getting Camby here last night when I read he wasn't happy about going to Toronto and wanted to be on a contender. I'd love to nose into the Bargs trade somehow to get Camby headed here. if we move Green too, so much the better.

We'd have to move Green to avoid the luxury tax. Adding in a S&T of Hansbrough would effectively add Cambys full salary of over $4m and put us almost a full million into he tax.

moving Green isn't a problem. I know you've said that we don't want to go over the tax barrier at all, but there is a 4 mm buffer zone and I'm less sure than you are that we are unwilling to go over the bottom of the zone as long as we don't actually have to pay tax.

I wonder if anyone from the teams or reporters who talk to the teams reads these forums and passes good ideas on. if this is considered and rejected by our capologists, that's good enough for me.

There's no $4m buffer. There's the tax line and that's it. You cross it, you pay. What you're thinking of is the "apron", which is a hard cap that's invoked if we use the full MLE or the BAE. We aren't crossing into the tax no matter what, so the apron is a non-factor for us.

I was indeed confused. Here is the tax rule:

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q21

and here is the cap rule which explains that the "apron" determines not when tax is due but when the smaller exemptions for teams over the tax limit kick in.

I assume GSW's bean counters will point out that wold be a damn expensive rd 2. Too bad Indy didn't bundle Hansborough with Green...I'd have jumped on that ( assuming it does not "Lux" GSW.

Yesterday i said i'd probably agree to 2x rd 2's for Green. Today i go back to wanting a 1st. We can buy late rd 2's every year. What we really need are 1st rounders in 14 and 17. If we can get a 1st we'll do it. If not, lets just stand pat and maintain the TPE until someone gets hurt and we can use it to fill a need.

Its not that Green and 2 2nds for TPE is a bad deal for us, its just that it doesn't help us much and reduces flexbility. Think we want to compete this year so lets keep the flexibility as we may need it later.

That's fair. However, if history shows anything, it's not coming from the Pacers. I can't think if a time that Indy ever traded a 1st just to dump a contract. We've traded 1sts for players we WANT, like the old Al Harrington deal and when we wanted Foster from you guys. We have t given up 1sts to dump guys.

Yea, i dont expect to get a 1st rd pick for Green's contract unless we're adding in some value (which i don't think we'd do). i assume it would need to be a worse contract like Beasley or Gerald Wallace.

We traded Luke to the Bucks, for cap space. This ones toast.
