Pistons Sign Chauncey

I have no clue what to make of this. I'm very excited, but also very confused. What does this mean for Knight/Bynum?

Billups isn't great anymore but as long as he's willing to accept a minor role and come in and mentor than I like the deal. He's certainly respected around the league and could still help us off the bench like Big Ben did in his later years.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
Not to say Billups can't be a PG anymore (I think he's much better suited for the PG still) but does anyone think he's signed to be our starting/backup SG more than PG? That's the only thing I can think of. Otherwise signing Bynum doesn't make much sense.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
I think he either starts sg or backups knight and mentors him, atleast he will be able to retire a piston and join the front office or become a coach after.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
What about Bynum though? Do you think this means he has a spot in the rotation? I can't imagine we'd sign him to be our 3rd PG. He's deserving of a much better role than that.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
Billups probably is better suited to play SG now because he lacks quickness to keep up with faster PGs yet still has size and strength to guard MOST SG's... He certainly could play either role.
Deal certainly puts English or Siva off the team IMO.

Too bad we didn't buy out Stuckey, we could amnesty CV, let English go and sign Rip now that he's released.

I agree with everything you said except for the SG part, as I think Chauncey is better with the ball. But even that I wouldn't argue very much because of his speed/defense. I'm disappointed that Siva won't be on the team. I really liked him and thought he could develop into a very solid backup PG. That said, I'm very glad Billups is back and hopefully he can be a great mentor to Knight.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
How about chauncey starts sg, bynum back up pg and kcp is our sixth man. Chauncey can still mentor knight and can run plays also. He still has a great 3 point shot in him and we needed that plus leadership and experience.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
With the players we currently have that definitely makes the most sense, and I'd support it.
Knight/Billups/Smith/Monroe/Drummond would be fun to watch!

I need to change my avatar to Chauncey now
If Gigi is legit and KCP has a good rookie season we could actually be a pretty good 3pt shooting team; BK, KCP, Chauncey, Singler,Middleton, Gigi and CV.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey

Chauncey's back!
I don't expect too much on the court, but he's a team culture changer. He left a hole nobody has been able to fill since he left. Elated to have him back.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
Ummm, Joe better work the phones and make a trade or something... otherwise Siva will be heading to Europe
Drummond
Slava
Monroe
CV
Mitchell
Jerebko
Smith
Datome
Singler
Middleton
K.C.P
Stuckey
Billups
Knight
Bynum
That's 15...
No big deal losing English... but Siva?
And IMO it doesn't matter which position Chauncey plays... he's one of the most popular players in the league and him "coming home" is a huge positive for Joe, Gores, Cheeks and the organisation. Chauncey could have stayed in LA with CP3 and Doc... probably could have gone to Miami... chose Detroit! That's a huge credit to Joe
Guards = Knight 30, Stuckey 24, K.C.P 18, Billups 12, Bynum 12.... could work

Re: Pistons Sign Chauncey
That is now 17 players on our team, I expect english and unfortunately siva to be cut and some trades to happen also.
