Trade Targets.

Post#1 » by jaredtyshaf » Tue Jul 16, 2013 6:19 am

Ok so we kept Stuckey and CV-DNP and I am guessing we did that to use them as salary dump chips to get a good player from a team needing to shed salary or rebuild. We also have some young assets on rookie contracts to add to trades. We also have KCP and Knight if a really stellar deal becomes available.

Our Assets.....

Salary Dumps:

Rodney Stuckey
Charlie V

Reluctant to Trade:

Knight
KCP

Youngins:

Singler
Middleton
Mitchell
Krav
Siva

Anyways who are some players we should be targeting?

A wiser person would be patient and see what this team is capable before playing 2K mode and blowing it up.

I just read Suns are shopping Kendall Marshall. I never saw him play much at UNC but wasn't he a high prospect last year, ranked up there with Lillard as the best PGs in the draft? Might be worth a look, though he could also be a bust and that's why they are dumping him.

Marshall had every opportunity to play last year.

No need to add a fifth PG to the equation.

I'd rather keep Siva than trade for Marshall

Right now we need to be patient and just try and figure out how the rotation is going to work...

The time for trading 2 for 1 will come... but only if we view Siva as a must have 15th Man. Easy option is to send him to Europe to play for a season and then bring him back next off-season

I don't see a reason to try and move them now, they will likely be much more valuable at the trade deadline.

I'm sure a few teams will underperform and move a solid piece in order to save cap and help with the tank.

I find it hard to believe we will be able to add any good impact piece without moving Monroe since Drummond is off limits. I think we gotta roll with this group unless Joe D changes his mind. I like Marshall but just no room right now.

....... So trading Stuckey or CV in a salary dump is blowing it up?

The only untouchables on our team are Monroe, Dre and Smith. Knight and KCP are almost off limits, but if a great trade came along I could see us including them.

From the little i've seen/read about him is that he's a good passer and playmaker, but his athleticism isn't great and neither is his shooting.
He doesn't seem like the type of target we need.

Almost 100% of trades happen in the offseason (During Draft or FA) or at the deadline. We are either goinng to make a trade prior to the season or at the deadline.

It would probably be smarter to wait until the deadline and see what we have and what the NBA landscape looks like, but if a good deal comes along now why not take it?

Also this thread was supposed to be about potential trade targets for us. Whether we look at them now or at the deadline.

Kyle Lowry is a guy I would like if he comes relatively cheap.

Would've made a great plan before we signed Bynum back...

Guys we MIGHT be able to get with expirings, and possibly other minor assets (Singler?):

Granger/Green (Indiana)
Gay/Lowry (Toronto)
Nash (Lakers)
Green (Boston)
Joe Johnson (Brooklyn)

BK is going all in, no way they make Johnson available.

They still might consider a deal to lose JJ's huge contract and improve their bench:

Deron / Stuckey
Brooks / Terry / Stuckey
Pierce / Singler
KG / CV
Lopez / Evans

Forgot they had Jet, I could possibly see them attempting something like this.

I would move them, if it was in a deal to bring back a blue chip PG.

Stuckey and Villanueva are very talented players who have underachieved. Both of them are in their prime, and facing down the last shot at a sizable contract that they'll ever have. I believe both of these guys will play hard this season.

Additionally, the best offensive squads were with Villanueva on the floor, to space the pick and roll for Bynum and Drummond.

At this point, I'd keep them unless, like I mentioned, a blue chip PG becomes available. They should be playing their best basketball we've seen in years, and if so, gives Detroit a lot of depth.

I'd move Knight for another pg. Like someone offered in T&T Dragic would be good.
