Oden
I see the Hawks have threw there name in the Oden Sweepstakes. I hope we get this one. I believe he would be better than Howard if he can stay healthy.

Re: Oden
It's good that Ferry is considering him. We definitely need his size. I don't know that he'd be better than Howard if healthy, but he could certainly be just as good a defender. From reports I've read, he is in good condition and hungry to get back on the court.

Re: Oden
I seriously believe that ATL is the best fit for him.
We need him and at the same time, we have a 3 big rotation that can play without him, so he doesn't have to play back to back games.
We can also pay him more than other playoffs teams, even if SAS or MIA are more title contender than only playoffs contender.
We also have more experience than a team like NOP that can give him more playing time, but maybe too much to be competitive.
Hope Ferry can make it happen.

Re: Oden
^^^ Agreed.
I would THINK he'd be more interested in proving himself as a good/great player at this point in his career. The Hawks would be able to give him the best opportunity to do that, imo. It seems like ring-chasing at this point in his career (at what amounts to only a single season's-worth of games played) would be kind of cheap. Has anyone here followed him closely enough to know what his personal motivation is?

Spurs would be a great franchise to take over
Agreed. I can't think of any lasting benefit for Greg signing with Atlanta over San Antonio.
Hawks are still in basketball purgatory.
I imagine Spurs as the best option. Heat at #2. Mavs at #3.
Hawks are his 4th best option.

I believe his best option is who ever gives him the longest contract with the most guaranteed $$$$$. I say 3 years 8 mil Team option in year 2 player option in year 3.

Re: Oden
yea I'm sure he's gonna sign for the most money, like you guys already said he'd also be a starter on our team. He won't really be respected as a player if all he wanted was to ring chase. (Especially if his goal was to get a ring before Durant)

Re: Oden
I think it would have to be about the money as well. The top teams have no flexibility with their cap to make it worth going after a ring. Yes, it's about restoring his career, but he needs to take advantage of his opportunity to make as much as possible in order to secure his future. That's how I would look at it. Maybe if he's doing we'll after this deal is up, he can go looking for a ring.

Money is indeed an issue, but at 25 I suspect he also desires a chance to contribute, a place to develop and the camaraderie of other tall, young black millionaires.
But he needs a team that will manage his health and limit his PT. we try to start Him at Center, and begin leaning on him for production and it's only a matter of time before his knees and body in general begin to break down. There's a reason he hasn't played in three years and has never completed a full season.

Re: Oden
What I love, love, LOVE is how we keep putting ourselves in position to get Centers. This is what I've been screaming for - for years. In the NBA, either have 3 absolute superstars or have a very good Center with a very good team. Nogueira, talk about Asik, talking to Bynum, bidding on Oden, even the (long) shot with Muscala - this is what we have to do.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Re: Oden
I doubt he will ever be a starter in the nba anymore. I think the most you can expect out of him is being a back up big playing around 15 minutes a night. Anymore than that will probably be hazardous to his health.

Re: Oden
Oden, surprisingly, turned down more money for a short term minimum contract from Miami.
I'll be rooting against MIA as always, but hope things turn out well for Gregory.
