Colby Lewis will have surgery to remove bone spurs from his right hip and will miss the rest of the season.
The recovery time is six to eight weeks before he can return to normal activities.
Lewis has dealt with the hip issue going back to the 2011 season, when he helped the Texas Rangers reach their second consecutive World Series.
He hasn't pitched in the major leagues this season.
