Phillies Have No Plans For Gonzalez To Pitch In 2013

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Sep 15, 2013 1:10 pm

The Philadelphia Phillies, who view Miguel Gonzalez as a potential No. 3 starter in 2014, have no plans for him to pitch competitively this season.

The club signed Gonzalez to an amended three-year, $12 million deal, then asked the Cuban defector to spend time in Florida to get used to American baseball.

"I don't think there is any necessity for him to go throw winter ball or anything like that," assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. "We just want to see where he's at. We want to get him assimilated into our organization and be ready to go for spring training."
