If Manziel is there at our pick we pick him trade him for like 3 or 4 more picks

Re: College Prospects
DT Paegan out of Alabama is definitely worth mentioning and so is WR TJ Jones out of Norte Dame.
I'd say a guard isn't as important as a backup safety.
Center
Cornerback
Quarterback
Tight End
Wide Receiver
Defensive Tackle
Safety
If Melton isn't re-signed then DT will move to third on the priority list.

Re: College Prospects
If mettenberger declares and we can get him in the 4th or later I want him. He's been inconsistent but always has great games against the best teams. He has all the pro tools a QB should have. That along with Trestman's coaching I think he'd be a great Cutler back up and future replacement.

Re: College Prospects
I'm starting to think we should key Jay walk and start McCown with a rookie qb to back him up and learn the ropes. Invest all our money into defense and Mc. In Trestmans system can lead us to the playoffs.

Re: College Prospects
There's no way they let Cutler walk unless he sits several more games this year an McCown tears it up.
I like Mannion late in the draft. Top picks will probably be defense.

Re: College Prospects
I don't see the need for a backup qb. Mccown is fine, and if you're looking for a backup it means you invested in Cutler log term. Also safety is near the top of the list. To me a pass rusher is need one, then cb/s in either order, then DT, then a center. The rest are more of wants rather than needs. Those are critical.

McCown is over 30. We need competent youth at the backup QB position. I agree that we are not desperate for a backup right now but if a good QB is there in the later rounds there's no point of not drafting one.

I guess I don't disagree that if a value pick is there later in the draft you go for it, but given the state of the defense it doesn't even crack my needs list.

Yea. When I made this tread I didn't exoect this defense to be so bad.

Even if we cut Peppers in the off-season we have McClellin, Wootton, Ball and Washington. I think if we get a pass rushing DT it would eliminate the need for a DE.
I'd go DT and CB in rounds one and two (in whichever order). Then agree that we need a center. and then rest of the draft should be dedicated to a true deep threat receiver (I like TJ Jones), a backup QB, a safety and value picks at the end of the draft at any position.

Re: College Prospects
As for safety I really like Antone Exum at Virginia Tech. He is just coming back from an ACL tear. He is huge at 6'1" 224 and extremely athletic. In 2012 he played CB and before he tore his ACL he racked up 5 interceptions, 16 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles and 48 tackles. In 2011 he played safety and had 1 interception, 10 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles and 89 tackles.
Huge, athletic, playmaker who played excellent football at both Cornerback and Safety. He is no Brandin Hardin, he actually has ball skills and does not have a history of injuries, just the one. If he is there in one of the later rounds then we need to scoop him up.

Re: College Prospects
Defensive Tackles
Stephon Tuitt ND - best pass rushing DT in this draft. If he is there in the first round we have to get him. No exceptions.
Anthony Johnson and Ego Ferguson (both from LSU) - Their talent levels are very similar. Johnson is probably a little more athletic and a little more talented, but they could both be worth a first round pick.
Kelcy Quarles SC - He plays with Clowney, but there is no doubt he is an explosive athlete and definitely takes advantage of playing next to a star. Puts up good numbers. 27 tackles with 7 SACKS. crazy.
Stephen Tuitt is my favorite player in this draft. We have to get him if he's there in the first. If there is a run on defensive linemen this draft like there was on offensive linemen last year, then we have to take either Johnson, Ferguson or Johnson in the first (whoever is left). Otherwise (if Tuitt is gone and there is not a rune on DLmen) then we should take a corner first and one of these three guys in the second.

Re: College Prospects
Speed Receivers
Odell Beckham LSU - Great hands, can play inside and out, can make sideline and middle of the field circus catches, with reliable hands.
TJ Jones ND - Outside and in. Slot and outside. Excellent, excellent, excellent, blocker. Has great number despite having crap at QB. my favorite speed receiver in the draft.
Jared Abbrederis Wisconsin - puts up excellent numbers every year, but plays against poor competition. He is definitely better than Nick Toon but Nick Toon hasn't done anything in the NFL as far as I know.
Josh Huff Orgeon - Probably the best athlete. His route-running doesn't look that good, and it doesn't have to be good at Oregon.
Brandin Cooks Oregon State - Numbers are Ridiculous! 91 catches 1344 yards and 14 touchdowns. Weak competition but extremely quick and extremely reliable hands. Better numbers than Markus Wheaton (came out of Oregon State last year) but even smaller than him.
Christion Jones - Excellent returner, not that great of a receiver, and small.
Jalen Sanders OU - Good receiver but too small.
If Beckham is there in the third round we have to take him because of the amount of talent he has. TJ Jones is my favorite receiver in the draft; excellent receiver and probably the best blocking WR in the draft. If we have Jones, Marhsall, Bennett and Forte, we have the best group of blocking skill position players in the NFL by far. Take him in the third unless Beckham is there. If neither are there I'm fine with waiting until the sixth or seventh round to pick up a speed receiver.

Centers
Travis Swanson, Bryan Stork, Gabe Ikard, Hraniss Grasu, Weston Richburg, Tyler Larson - in that order. The first three we would have to take in the 3rd or 4th. The other guys could be there in the 5th or 6th.

Re: College Prospects
So far my ideal draft would be
1. Stephon Tuitt DT - best DT, top 5 pass rusher
2. Cornerback - not sure which yet, but best available
3. TJ Jones WR - don't see Beckham being available
4. Center - one of those top three (Swanson, Stork, Ikard)
5. Antone Exum - a steal if he drops here coming of ACL
6. Quarterback - Mannion, Fales or Price (in that order)
6. Tight End - Lots of good TEs, someone should drop, maybe Lyerla
7. Best available RB, OL or DL.

I mention getting Exum in the fifth, but it is possible he doesn't drop past the third due to talent. Tre Boston is a similar player. TJ Jones could be available in the fourth, if not there are plenty of other viable deep threats we could get later.
DT, CB, FS, WR, C, QB, TE and best player available could work better than what I said previously.

Re: College Prospects
There is not a huge quantity of quality safeties in the draft or FA. I think we should go after Byrd or Pollard in FA if we strike out there we basically have no choice but to draft one in the draft but unless a good safety drops to the fourth, which is unlikely since there are so few, or later I do not think we will draft a starter. I think with Conte's play we need to draft a safety regardless.

Thats why we should take Boston or Exum in the third. They have the best ball skills of all the safeties and rackup tackles.
