What do we do with our upcoming guard logjam?

As soon as Jennings and Stuckey are healthy we're going to have some unhappy players. Its looking like Billups, Bynum, and KCP are all rotation worthy and Jennings just got a big deal... Stuckey is in a contract year and won't be happy being out of the rotation.

So what is our solution? It seems like its inevitable to soon have some locker room turmoil once all of our guards are healthy.

One of Bynum, KCP or Stuckey will hit the bench. My money is on it being KCP.

I think everyone's minutes go down, mostly Bynum. Need to get Stuckey some minutes so we can showcase him to trade him :-)

KCP will hit the bench. Bynum will continue to be in the rotation. Billups minutes will get his minutes decreased, but may still start.

If Stuckey plays in an engaged manner and demonstrates the consistency one would expect from a vet, he'll play his way into another franchise.

If he follows his normal pattern, he'll get a huge minutes reduction until he's phased out of the rotation when KCP is ready to play a larger role.

KCP will probably be the odd man out, but I could see him still getting situational minutes because he has shown the ability to be a good defender. So while we'll probably go with Jennings, Chauncey, Stuckey, and Bynum as our 4 -guard rotation, on nights when we go against a hot SG or PG, and none of those 4 are having success stopping him, I could see Cheeks giving KCP a go at him.

I also think he could end up taking the backup SF spot from Singler. I could see Datome taking Jerebko's role as backup stretch-4. Then if KCP starts making his three's and Singler defense is lacking at all, maybe Cheeks tries KCP in that backup SF role instead.

It's a long season, and Billups will get, at most 20-25 mpg along with quite a few games off during the season (back to backs, 4 games in 5 nights, stuff like that). There will be injuries that open up PT. All 5 of these guards will get quite a bit of PT over the course of the season. Besides, KCP is strong and will get a lot stronger on D. Guys that play D and who run the floor the way he does, will get PT even as a rookie.

In a perfect world, Stuckey is DNP'd and Jennings takes Bynums minutes from last night. Let Bynum have Stuckeys minutes.

My guess is that Jennings and Stuckey get the starting job until KCP takes it from Stuckey. Bynum will be the odd man out when we are at full strength but I don't think we really have much of a logjam at all. Ideally this is what I would like to see...

Jennings/Billups
KCP/Stuckey
Smith/KCP

We actually have a decent backcourt rotation. At least this year all of our rotations players actually belong in the league.

Bynum will be good insurance in case of injury.

Jennings 32/ Billups 16
KCP 25/ Stuckey 23

Use Bynum situation-ally when we need instant offence. I think KCP is going to have a hard time finding minutes though.

I think Billups will keep starting alongside Jennings once he's back, and I think Stuckey and Singler are each safe bets to play 20-something minutes each night.

Since I read Cheeks give KCP some praise today, I'm going to hope/assume he stays in the lineup no matter what, although I'm willing to bet his role is reduced. Billups will probably get some back to backs off, so those minutes will probably go to Bynum/KCP.

I hate the idea of Billups/Jennings starting together. Both guys are far superior with the ball in their hands and forcing them to share it while playing together is a waste. Also, the backcourt defense will suck badly and I don't want to hear people talk about Dre and Smith cleaning that up because that doesn't work. The reason the Wiz were able to stay in that game the whole night was because Bynum gave up dribble penetration to Wall all night along, especially in the 4th quarter. Luckily for us, the Wiz weren't able to capitalize enough on the ridiculous amount penetration that Wall was getting.

Honestly I like Billups at the 2 because it seems he does a nice job of keeping the PG under control... being out there on the floor with Bynum he was trying to get Bynum to slow some stuff down and run some offense... which as good as Bynum is in stretches he certainly also gets some tunnel vision.

Big thing for me is... no way do I see Bynum out of the rotation... he's played fairly well and has good chemistry with Drummond. He for sure will go to the bench and backup Jennings which IMO means almost all of Billup.s minutes will be at the SG spot... And I do agree it is possible for KCP to get some backup SF... especially with Smith, Drummond, and Monroe getting almost all the PF/C minutes.

I would like to see something similar to this but Billups getting 6-8 minutes at SG and then split the other 40-42 between KCP and Stuckey. Of course in some match-ups KCP can play the 3 giving Stuckey some more burn at the 2.

Bynum -should- be the odd man out. When Jennings/Stuck returns, we will have have Stuck/Jennings/Billups who are all capable of playing point guard. But it will likely be KCP since he is the rook.

Speaking of KCP...he's going to have some growing pains. He's gotta start knocking down open shots, because that's what shooters do. And I'm confident eventually he will.

I don't see it as a serious problem.

In my mind Stuckey does not belong in this rotation as currently constructed and should be the odd man out. I'm sure that Cheeks will be trying out a variety of lineups and rotations in the first few weeks but it is my hope that he comes to this conclusion himself.

With that said, given the likelihood that KCP has early and mid season struggles and Billups has injury issues, I expect to see Stuckey in and out of the rotation sporadically but in my mind if he's not playing it means things are going well with our other guards.

We clearly are not overly concerned with positions. All Dumars has talked about is getting his 5 best guys on the court, hence Smith at SF and Monroe at PF. But it swings both ways, we can just as easily go small as we can big. KCP could very well see minutes at SF, but so could Stuckey. I will not be the least bit surprised to see 3 "point guards" on the floor at the same time.

Should've taken a screenshot before it was deleted, but somebody earlier today asked Jennings on Twitter what day he would be coming back and he replied Sunday (against the Celtics at the Palace).
