The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to continue discussing a possible trade involving Jeff Samardzija.

It now appears unlikely that Chicago will sign Samardzija to a contract extension.

The pitcher is two years away from free agency.

It makes perfect sense for the Cubs not to sign there best pitcher. Chances are he is traded and wins 18 games for a playoff team.

You can get a pretty big haul from the Diamondbacks. It's a wise move on the Cubs part.
