Melo for JSmoove?
Seems like Melo is gone from the Knicks, as long as he can get someone else to pay him. It may be 10 years too late since we could have drafted him, but what do you think about a trade around JSmooth and Melo? Knicks are just f--ked, and may not even make the playoffs. They can't just let Melo walk. Seems like we could work out a deal after Dec 15.

No way the Knicks give up on Melo. Sure, though. Deal.

I've thought about this for awhile but I think we need to include Monroe, KCP, picks and maybe even a third team to get a deal done. No way Smith and scraps nets Melo.

Getting Melo would be awesome but can you say "bye bye defense!"?
Jennings, Melo and Monroe in the same starting lineup?

Exactly, I don't think Monroe and expirings would be enough either, maybe Smith, Monroe, Stuckey and Villanueva for Anthony and Bargnani, still may not be enough though.
Drummond/Bargnani/Harrelson
Bargnani/Anthony/Jerebko/Mitchell
Anthony/Singler/Datome
KCP/Singler/Billups
Jennings/Bynum/Siva
No depth whatsoever but the pieces seem to fit in the starting line-up.

Re: Melo for JSmooth?
I realize Smith would not get Melo 1-1, but it seems like something could be there. And how much leverage does New York have in a trade if they know Melo is going to walk (and apparently Steven Smith thinks it is going to happen). I'd still like to keep Monroe. Maybe Monroe and Smith for Melo and Chandler, and have Dre and Chandler as twin towers?
Ok, just kidding on that lineup.

Melo isn't a winner. Smith probably isn't either, but say no to Melo at the price he'll undoubtedly cost.

1. If the biggest piece you're trading is Smith, you don't necessarily have to resign Melo. He can be a hired gun, get you to 2nd round and hope for an upset and get to the ECF. Then you take that experience for your young core and continue to build while having ridiculous cap space again to replace him.
2. I would be willing to go 5 years/$90 million on a resigned Melo. If he doesn't take it, feel free to take less elsewhere and then refer to my point #1.

Re: Melo for JSmooth?
Suggested this weeks ago before the Knicks fell even further down the rankings to the bottom.
Knicks definitely trade Melo, Bargs, Shumpert, KMart for Monroe, KCP, Stuckey, Charlie V, Jerebko, Mitchell
They wont get better than Monroe and KCP for Melo, esp with their terrible record.
Jennings / Billups - Bynum
Shumpert / Singler
Melo / Bargs
Smith / KMart
Drummond / Harrelson
I think that lineup can give Miami or Indy trouble in the ECF
Also we make the max offer to Melo and I really dont see him walking away. Yeh Detroit is no where near LA or NYC but he still gets to play with Smith and Drummond.

Re: Melo for JSmooth?
Regardless of any logic for or against trading for Melo is moot. New York will likely let him walk a FA before they trade him away. They want to keep him, regardless of any logical thinking (per Dolan).
They won't trade him, unless they're getting a top 5 player back in return. Which is ridiculous, but that's what it is.

No chance in heelll Knicks let Melo walk away.
With the New York media? Are you kidding me? They would never EVER let the Knicks live that down.
Anything the Knicks can get for Melo is better than nothing. To get Monroe, KCP, Mitchell, and dump Bargs all for a player who was going to walk away anyways even Dolan is not that big of a moron.

Re: Melo for JSmooth?
Yeah, I thought that the Knicks would be able to recover a bit from their implosion, it looks like they aren't. With Melo's recent comments about how they're the laughinstock of the league, he's definitely out.
Literally no chance Melo stays in New York after this fiasco. I'm so glad we don't have an owner like Dolan doing stupid things in the background.

Yep. Also, I also think that Knicks would want Josh instead of Greg for Melo(assuming they decide to trade him) just because they love the hyped names.

We don't need Melo he needs the ball way too much and would stagnate the offense. We need a sharpshooter who can hit a consistent 3-pointer. and operate well off the ball.

They don't really have much of a choice. He's a UFA. At the end of the day if Melo decides to leave, he will leave.

Re: Melo for JSmooth?
I'm really conflicted about Melo. On one hand, he's a go to scorer who can take over a game and gives us a legitimate perimeter threat. On the other hand, his defense is often inconsistent at best and requires a high volume of shots, which can take you out of a game when they're not falling. He's also likely peaked as a player, so his next contract may become a weight around the neck of whatever team signs him.
That said, I'm open to it. If the Knicks have reasonable demands for him (ha, I should stop right there), it's worth exploring. If we're not 100% committed to Moose, I could see flipping him and our expirings for Melo, but nothing more than that. We don't have a first to offer, so Moose is the next best thing. A solid piece to rebuild around that allows them to finally shut down Amare, and have a guy who can fill in for Chandler when needed.
From our end, we get to move Smith over to his natural position (PF) and run a starting five of Jennings/KCP/Melo/Smith/Dre. A scary line-up in both senses of the word, but one that could certainly go toe to toe with any team in the league right now. And I certainly like it better than the prospect of adding Rudy Gay.
That said, the Knicks are a mess and something tells me they'll expect heaven and earth in return for Melo (or for someone to take on STAT as well), so we're probably not even in the conversation.

if we can dump Smiths contract while bringing Melo in as a rental, and figure out where to go from there, id be all for it. like Sho said, we wouldn't really have anything to lose.
