Balanced AL East ?

Post#1 » by kavan » Fri Dec 6, 2013 5:42 pm

Could them losing Cano and Granderson make it a more balanced AL East? Bo Sox dont have any high priced talent like the Yankees did could we finally be seeing a shift in raw talent vs big box names in the AL East?.

We have a few big name players but none of them in the tax bracket of the likes of Cano, Granderson or even A-Rox. Now with Mariano retired I think the time is now to make a push to be competitive for the years to come. Drafting and Signing good deals will be key.

They gained Ellsbury & McCann and who knows if Beltran or Choo sign with them. Yankees are still a powerhouse along with the BoSox, and Rays.

Yea those guys are great but I mean perennial all stars whom can be game changers alone in a line up. I think if we didnt have such a bad year as a team we could of been competitive. Think the Yankees are learning you dont always need to spend 250 million to win.

The MLB should draw for division every few years.

Take the 10 East teams, and draw 5 and 5, put one division in the AL, and the other in the NL.

Do the same thing for the central and west.

Home team decides whether there is a dh or not.

The changes to the Yankees payroll are unreal. With the Wells rebate and potentially a Soriano one as well, although I never read anything that summed that one up to know how much, without ARod I'd put the Yanks at around 155m and that's after paying MLBTR arb rates for Gardner (who will be dealt and doesn't need to be replaced), Robertson, Cervelli, and Kelly. They need a second baseman, at least one starter, probably two, and with whatever's left they need bullpen. If ARod counts, then they have to do that with 10-15m so there's no room to spare this year, but if he stays off for the year, they can wheel and deal like crazy and still come out underneath the 190ish mark for tax.

And after this year, forget it. I expect them to absolutely destroy previous salary records as soon as they spend a year underneath the tax. In '14 and '15 I wouldn't expect anyone to get within a sniff of the top 2-3 premium FAs, they'll be foregone conclusion Yankees.
