Asik trade coming down today?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Wed Dec 18, 2013 5:19 pm

I know Detroit hasn't been in any of the rumors, but almost all of the trade scenarios that have been rumored are all three way trades. Since we don't need Asik, but we have a couple of big expiring contracts and a need for more outside shooting, does anyone think we have a chance in getting involved? If Dumars is doing his job, he should be on the phone trying to get in the middle of all this.

Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland and Philly are all part of the rumors.
Atlanta - Milsap straight up works the best without a third team.
Boston - can we get Jeff Green?
Cleveland - ?
Philly - Turner coming to Detroit?

I think it is a long shot, but anytime there is player movement happening, it is an opportunity to make our team better. Hopefully Dumars surprises us today.

What trade would you like Dumars to surprise us with? I feel like there's no point in making a trade for the sake of moving bodies. It would need to be a clear win for us or a different look off the bench.

We gotta move Stuckey at the deadline for some sort of young guy or draft pick. He's playing good but unless we are going to spend our offseason money on him again then he needs to be traded for something.

News like this is encouraging...
As a result, the Celtics now are widely regarded as the strongest rivals to the Philadelphia 76ers in terms of the likely destination for Asik, with many rival executives expecting the final form of a trade built around the 7-footer from Turkey to feature at least three teams.

So if Celtics get Asik, what does Houston get back? Maybe we can throw CV into the equation to help balance salaries and he actually might fit their need for a stretch 4 (although Houston obviously needs more). Maybe Rondo and CV to Houston, and we get Jeff Green, and some other minor parts float around (Siva to Boston, we throw in a draft pick to Houston).

^You greatly overvalue Asik if you think Rondo would be traded for him. And Green moved as well?!?

I don't think we're the mystery team or will be involved at all. Morey is all smoke and mirrors trying to create a bidding war and hype for a disgruntled player who has demanded a trade and played like crap this season in a back-up role. If all Morey wanted was expirings than I think we'd be a player, but he's trying to bring in assets with the idea getting them before the 20th means he could flip them by the trade deadline in February. I guess that could be expirings, but he hasn't been linked to expirings at all in the rumors/leaks.

And bloody hell Dumars involved in a trade with Morey and Ainge - we ain't gonna win that one.

Asik has certainly shown that he is a quality big, although this year has been a bit of a disappointment with Howard taking his spot. I think his balloon contract and the fact that he only has 1.5 years left is hurting his value more than anything else.

I'm just winging it on trade proposals, but I really hope that once the trade happens, we're not saying "Crap! The (enter 3rd team name here) just got (enter good player name here) just for facilitating the Asik trade! What the f--k was Dumars doing?"

This Dec 19th supposed deadline really doesn't make sense. OK, so they want to be able to trade the players they get in another deal before the deadline? Why would they even make a trade if they intend to immediately trade the guys they get back? Why not wait and just trade him for assets you intend to keep? I'm sure they would like to get this resolved sooner rather than later so the team has time to gel before the playoffs, but trading for temporary players doesn't accomplish that.

Singler has been playing well but...

Detroit out: Cv, Bynum, Singler
Detroit in: Jeff Green

Boston out: Jeff Green, Brandon bass
Boston in: Asik and Bynum

Houston out: Asik Out
Houston in : bass and Singler

Green is the perfect versatile sub.

As you mentioned, the 19th gives them options at the trade deadline. Considering they have got Harden and Howard in the last few years, I have to give their GM the benefit of the doubt on what his plan is. Maybe they get 3 players as part of the Asik deal, knowing they only want to keep one of them. Dumping the other 2 at the trade deadline would make the 19th deadline logical.

Thanks for coming up with something better than my quick attempt. This is exactly the kind of thing that Dumars should be on the phones trying to make happen.

I really have to think what could Detroit offer as the third team? Detroit would make a good third team as they do not need or desire to add Osik. I think that Houston probably likes both Jennings and Monroe. I could see Detroit being involved with a swap of sending Monroe or Jennings to Houston. Josh Smith would be the other guy/target that I would think of but just don't feel a match is there cause of his salary. The only way we jump in is if we want a guy like Turner and will send Monroe or Jennings to Houston. We don't have a trade current pick so I can't see us being much involved.

I'd think more like this:
Detroit Gets: Evan Turner
Houston Gets: Greg Monroe and a 2015 Philly Pick
Philly Gets: Omer Asik and Kyle Singler

Just give Monroe to Philly with Kyle and get their pick with Turner. Better for them, better for us.

If Asik to Boston for Bass, Lee and first happens - I wouldn`t mind swapping Stuckey for Lee and the first to give Houston the expiring contract.

Something like -

Houston trades Asik and filler
Houston receives Bass and Stuckey

Boston trades Bass, Lee and First round pick*
Boston receives Asik and Datome

Detroit trades Stuckey and Datome
Detroit receives Lee and First round pick*

*First round pick would have to be in the 2014 draft

If I were Houston I'd rather have Lee + the 1st than Stuckey.

Depends on if they value the expiring over two years remaining on Lee.

The Boston Celtics are making progress on a trade with the Houston Rockets for Omer Asik.

The Rockets would acquire Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first round pick from the Celtics.

Lee, Bass and Dwight Howard played together with the Orlando Magic.

This is the latest rumored deal per Wiretap. If Houston is willing to give up Asik for this, then I guess a third team isn't needed. Unless Atlanta throws out Milsap, not sure if Houston gets a better PF.

IMO, it means that the probability of Monroe getting traded to Boston is now close to zero.

I think it is a good deal for both sides. I think the idea of a third team would be to reroute Lee somewhere. I am not sure he would get many minutes behind Harden. My guess is that Bass would start at PF and Lee in a sixth man role.
