Bears Vs Eagles over before it began

Post#1 » by ChitownGetEm23 » Mon Dec 23, 2013 8:26 pm

When last night’s affair between the Bears and Eagles was preparing to begin all the buzz was around Chicago’s possible playoff berth. That was shortly lived after 8 minutes of play in the first quarter. Not only did the Bears start off dismal it continued down a bump slippery slope. I think we all knew the defense was bad, but this bad??? The last time I saw the Bears give up more than 50 points was to New England a few years back when it was snowing. Not only did the Bears not show up for the game I don’t think they ever got out of bed for the game. Every running back thrown at the Bears last night gashed the defense like a stab wound from Michael Meyers. Then to make matters worse if the Bears forced a long 3rd down play Nick Foles would burn us with a down field pass. Foles had seemingly all the time in the world to sit back and pick the Bears apart. The Eagles ran the same delay draw play about 10 times and averaged about 10 yards per carry every time. They say teams make adjustments at half time but the Bears seemed to make no adjustment at all, they just got worse.

You can’t even blame the game fully on the offense’s lack of productivity, due to the 3 touchdowns allowed in the first 8 minutes of the game. You can question the play calling on the first two drives as the Bears decided to run the ball more then throw over the first two possessions. Why? The Eagles secondary doesn’t feature anyone who has lock down ability. Devin Hester’s fumble was really the blow that took the Bears out of the game and you can add the amazing 25 yard punt from Pondlesh on their too. The Bears had the division wrapped up with a bow on it and choked. Jay Cutler had a pedestrian game and was never able to get into a rhythm. The only drive the Bears started to get a rhythm on ended with back to back sacks and a Bears punt.

Which team is going to show up next week? The Bears team who beat the Bengals, Dallas, Green Bay, and the Ravens; or are we going to get the Bears team who blew games against the Lions, Vikings, Redskins, and now the Eagles? Honestly, the Bears don’t deserve a playoff berth with the way they are playing. Even if they were to make the playoffs the Bears would more than likely get bounced out of the first round. This team is not prepared, defensively, for a playoff run. If you think the Bears would be able to contend with Carolina, Arizona, Seattle, San Francisco, or the Saints you’re dead wrong. All of those teams listed would make a mockery of the Bears and their push over defense. The Bears need to address the defense in the offseason, because the mantra of “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” died weeks ago. It’s simply embarrassing to watch this defense play the way they have this year and something has to change. When you have an offense in the top 3 your defense should at least be in the top 15 to be competitive against the good teams. I project the Bears to win this week against Green Bay but don’t be too excited Chicago fans as the Bears will be bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
