Searching For Origins of Pac-Man Hawk Logo

Recently, I have been researching the origins of NBA logos, mostly concerning who the designers were. One logo I've not found any information about as it relates to the design process is the Atlanta Hawk ''Pac-Man'' mark (unveiled during the 72-73 season)

Do any of you have information about who created this fairly iconic NBA visual, or anything about where it originated from?
