I think the Pats thought they had a good team and they went from 10 to 9 to 8 wins. That final team I think lost 6 out of 7 to end the year or something like that. I also think at that time a lot of players in New England took advantage of him. I also know Bobby Grier put a lot of blame on Pete for some of the draft picks not working out in New England.

In Pete's defense the team was being run very poorly by Grier and Kraft had his hands in the cookie jar way too much(Reason why Parcells left). The biggest issue with those Pats teams was letting Curtis Martin walk, if he doesn't walk Caroll probably wins enough to keep his job. If the failure of the Pats with Pete never happened I'm not sure Kraft would have ever allowed Bill to have such a control over the Pats.

That was due to fail...CArrol was too nice for that team, moving from Parcells to Carroll was too much a shift in personality.

The best example was Terry Glenn.

Terry was basically 'very quiet" under Parcells (SHE! lol) then started rebelling under Carroll

Difference in philosophy. And Pete had said it, he honed his craft and philosophy at USC. He asked the question, what if I had total control of a program. From top to bottom. He was given that in Seattle. An example are those defensive backs. He has crafted those defensive backs as he always wanted when he used to go on speaking engagements while at SC. Hes always wanted the taller lanky defensive backs. Those that will physically manhandle receivers. And no matter what side the ball was thrown on, can reach over with those long arms and combat and deflect the passes. So in Seattle he has that. An owner who sees and believes in his vision. Who also has deep pockets to create a fantastic environment at their facilities in the north west. And will give pete control over all aspects, including personnel. That all equals to their first superbowl win in the history of that franchise.
