The Hawks SG/SF of Choice.

Post#1 » by diesel50 » Thu Feb 13, 2014 9:01 pm

SG/SF is the position that this offseason will probably address. The question Hawks fan is given your drother's whom would you choose.

I'll start this by throwing a less often name out there....

Gordon Hayward.
I know that there are a lot of names that will get some traction... like Ariza, Stephenson, Young, Matthews, Bradley, Turner, even old man Ray Allen. And I can't wait to hear you guys take on some of those players. but here's why I like Hayward...
He fits what we're doing. His metrics are great. His shooting is top notch. He has a high BBIQ and he rebounds well. I don't think he's the best shooter, I don't think he's the best scorer. I just think he's a guy who can fit with what we are doing.

So here's my question...

With:

Jefferson, Sap, Hayward, Williams, Foye, Marvin, DMC...Favors, Kanter.... Why Did Utah Suck so badly last year.

I mean, if you really think about it, they have all the players we have...maybe better players than we have now:

Horf = Jefferson
Sap = Sap
DMC = Marvin
Korver = Hayward
Teague = Mo Williams.

And the guys that they have left are better than our guys... so what gives?
What you lookin' at? You all a bunch of ****' a-holes. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your freakin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy."

Teague is better than Mo Williams, and our coach is better than Ty Corbin.

Jefferson is better offensively, but Horford is better all around. Millsap isn't a jumpshooting forward in this offense, he actually goes to the rim more.

You also removed the whole Millsap/Favors Jefferson/Kantor tension on that team. Plus broken back Marvin wasn't better than DMC is this year.

I don't disagree with much of what you said.
I think Mainly the Millsap, Favors, Jefferson, Kantor... AK47?? tension was a big part of it. Coaching too. It's a shame that Corbin sat under Sloan for so long but couldn't replicate what Sloan did.

Horf vs Jefferson?....that's a needed debate.

Teague vs. Mo? I love Teague but no so fast my friend.

What's really interesting about all this is that I've heard that Gregg Popovich idolized Jerry Sloan and based his basketball philosophy - mental toughness and execution - on Sloan's way.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

That's the truth. The sadness in that is that Sloan never won a coach of the year award even though in some years, he definitely deserved it. He will not be remembered as a great coach of his time even though, I would say that he was definitely a top 10 guy. He never won the big one.

We have a ton of SG/SFs. Need more CENTER. Hayward will get big money, hear the Celtics are in love with him.

Hes a nice player I really like his game, but I dont see us going after a SG/SF when we have so many already. IF we get a Center, we would have
Korver/Millsap/Louwill/DMC/Mike Scott all as viable SFs or SGs

Our number 1 concern is CENTER. I dont want to see any more SF/SGs

I agree with you panda.. I just don't think the FO agrees with us. I can see us going for a Swingman as #1 priority. Why because Horf is going to be the C.
Horf's metrics as C is too good to move him to PF. Now we have Antic behind him so... it's easy just to leave that combo be and maybe bring in Bebe.
In the meanwhile, we will draft and prolly go after swingmen who can slash or shoot the three.
Hayward would be real nice with us.
If Orlando was unloading Afflalo, he could also work. The point is that we lack scoring.. We get back our PNR machine and these off ball shooters will be assassins!

Nogueira, Muscala, try hard for Dwight Howard, be in position for Asik (can't blame Ferry that Millsap priced himself out of that deal)...

Seems to me that Ferry's working on a Center. Like any GM, he'll eventually be judged by his results, however.
