More Teams interested in Teague?

Post#1 » by theatlfan » Wed Feb 19, 2014 3:49 am

Figured I'd start a new thread since the last one is team specific
Sam Amick / USA Today Sports wrote:The Atlanta Hawks: For all those teams that shoot an airball in pursuit of Rondo, Hawks point guard Jeff Teague could be a quality secondary option. Rival executives are of the belief that Teague is available if the proverbial price of the package coming their way is high enough. He has this season and three more left on his contract for a combined $32 million.

The article also mentions that 4 or 5 teams are chasing Rondo and names NYK, SAC, and TOR. Would be nice if we could get a bidding war for Teague.

Don't know if we'll do anything, but one thing that is for certain is that Ferry will always have us in the rumor mill come every deadline...

Would you do this? Ship:

Teague and Jenkins to SAC

Cunningham, Brand, Atl future 2nd along with J.Thompson and Fredette to the CAV . Cavs cut Brand and Cunningham. Thompson, Fredette and 2nd for Deng

We resign Brand after getting Deng in return from Cavs.

Ayon-Brand-Antic
Millsap- Scott
Deng- Carroll
Korver-Williams- Martin
Mack- Schroeder (gaining exp)- Williams

Then we can resign Deng to a smaller contract (Teague's range 7-8 M year x 2-3y) and go after a PG, Kyle Lowry or Jack?.. depending on Schroder's development pace ???

Potential Issues:

We can no longer trade a player and then re-sign him in the same season. Thusly, we'd be ridiculously thin at Center.

Mack as starting PG sounds like a complete train wreck.

I really like Deng and believe he'd do well in our system. But he'll warrant more than Teague's $8 miilion. He's a 2x All Star and this is his last big payday of his career. Can't see him taking a 40% paycut, in his prime to stay in Atlanta.

Deng is a solid player who is massively overrated. I don't touch that deal with a 20ft pole.

Deng at 7 or 8M is OK he will get older and already had some big injuries
Deng for more, No
Even if Josh was making some stupid plays like long 2s, he was always making a better season than Deng, who was selected. Deng is overrated mainly because of these selections, and everybody talk about him now like he's a real All-Star, so he's certainly seeking an "All-Star contract".

Didn't CHI offer him something like 8M/yr before trading him to CLE ?

Better keep this money for flexibility and sign a good C
