Turner is a perfect fit for you guys...

Post#1 » by BNelley24 » Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:11 pm

76ers fan here, just thought I'd say I believe Turner was a great acquisition for you. He was the 2nd overall pick for a reason. Since you guys already have a title contending core, adding a scrappy, grinder-type player like Turner who has pretty good athleticism was a great move. He will frustrate you sometimes with his cold spells and outside shooting, but since he isn't the main go to guy with your squad he can just do his best to play his role & fit in.

Turner is also a good competitor and cares a lot more than the average NBA player, although he will sulk sometimes with the refs.

Agree totally, not sure what the Pacers' consensus is, but I think it is a great pick-up for us (taking emotion out of the equation). He is young and he wants to prove himself nationally, he now has the perfect stage to do so. He also provides us with a very good back-up in case Stephenson can't be retained.

I've always liked Turner (and Thad) on the Sixers, just hard working guys who clearly have their head screwed on properly, besides that I think Turner is a good athletic guy who still has some further growth potential on the defensive side, so he is a good fit for us and our system.

he looked very good in last night's Laker game. he is better at creating his own shot than anyone we've had in a very long time - unless you count Barbosa in his first few games here before he sprained his ankle and went down hill. Lance can get to the hoop but Turner is as G Hill said post game a "mid-range laser."

the hate that ET gets from Sixer fans is unwarranted imo. He isn't the franchise player we thought he would be when he was selected #2, and he's been surrounded by garbage this year. Coach Collins almost ruined him. He's gonna be a great asset to you guys to win a championship. You guys are going to love him.

Big fan of Turner here. I believe if you want to ask anything about Turner and his stint with the 76ers, I'm one of the few knowledgeable guy to ask. So big of a fan that others may call me bias.

Some let me give you some background of ET with the 76ers..

First off, ET was a GREAT player in college and HS. In both worlds, he always had the ball in his hand most of the time. And I think what most people overlook is that in both worlds, he always had the size advantage to compensate for his late of explosiveness and length. And he has never had this advantage with the 76ers most of the time.

With that said, let me give you a brief summary of ET's years with the 76ers:
1st year: Doug Collins let him play the Reggie Miller/Rip Hamilton role. That was a COMPLETELY different role from what he used to do in college and in HS.
2nd year: He was the tertiary ball handler after Jrue and Iguodala. His role for the most time was a spot up shooter at the corner and watch jrue and Iguodala facilitate.
3rd year: Iguodala was traded. He added weight to add strength and compensate his lack of length and athleticism at the SF position. Basically he was a tweener SF. He showed some glimpse of what he can do but eventually got worn down due to his added weight and handicap at the SF position.
4th year: This year. Hinkie introduced shotchart to adjust our guys' game and made them more efficient on offense. And for ET it was more on attacking to the rim and taking the right side baseline jumpers. It worked early on the season. But he was asked to play a LeBronesque role on the team, probably to also jack up his numbers. Eventually he worn down and he was public enemy no.1 for our opponent on offense.

ET's inefficiency:
It's because he was always put in the WRONG position.
1.) Playing a completely different role.
2.) Playing a completely different position.
3.) Carrying a very heavy load on offense.

I've always said. ET is a talented player. And a player becomes inefficient if he plays a wrong role or position. I believe ET can be an efficient player for your team with playing the right role and letting him carry a load he can efficiently carry. And I saw that when you guys played the Lakers. I think he is close to perfect for your team. You guys either let him handle the ball and penetrate or let him play off ball and let him take those baseline jumpers. He also plays off the bench and doesn't have that much pressure to carry a team's offense. I think that possession when ET penetrated and kicked the ball out to CJ Watson to close out the third pretty much sums up how you can use ET effectively.

ET's biggest weakness is his perimeter shooting and perimeter defense.

1.) Perimeter Defense
Believe me, it's going to be a non-issue because I doubt you guys are counting on ET to be a lock down defender. ET is a capable on ball defender. The reason why he looked bad on our team was because of the defensive system Brett Brown implimented where our perimeter defenders are asked to sagged down to help our frontcourt (worst defensive frontcourt) to protect the paint. In return, it made us the league's worst perimeter defender but I guess it's pretty much OK compared if we just let the opposing team let us bulldoze their way in the paint.

You guys have Lance and George to be your lock down defender. You guys have Mahinmi, Hibbert and Bynum to anchor your team's interior defense. What you guys want from the other guys are just be solid on defense and not be a liability out there. With that said, I don't think you guys would complain too much on ET's defense. This is a guy asked to guard LBJ, Melo, Pierce and other star SFs from other team to being asked much inferior SGs in the league. He now isn't put into the disadvantage defensively guarding more longer and athletic SFs or asked to sag off his man to protect the paint.

2. Shooting:

Right now he has a very inconsistent perimeter shooting. But it's improving. And two promising factors are his shooting mechanics and his FT%. These two indicators shows that it's very possible that he can be a good perimeter shooter down the road.

That's pretty much it. I hope the best for your team and ET. I'm surely rooting for you guys to win the championship this year.
