Clippers vs Spurs in the Conference Finals?

Post#1 » by 50CALguns » Sun Mar 9, 2014 2:51 am

Who's the least favorable match-up for the Spurs in the Playoffs?

Who's the most favorable match-up for the Spurs in the Playoffs? (among probable Playoff teams; incld Memphis, Minnesota)

I'm a Clippers fan, and I fear meeting the Spurs in the Playoffs.
But if it means the Clips are in the Western Conf Finals, I'd gladly take it. And look forward to the challenge.

I personally want the Spurs to beat both the Clips and OKC, though that may be impossible due to seeding. That is purely out of respect for both clubs. Regardless off how they play this season I still think Houston is a year away.

1st round, among the 3rd to 10th seed (because the 3-5 seed are nearly identical, the most favorable matchup is Phoenix Suns. They're the youngest, with the worst Star among all playoff teams, the least experience, and a style of game that isn't built to win in the playoffs.

The least favorable matchup is meeting Portland in the first round for me. Our achilles heel has always been the ability to defend the midrange, and Aldridge is probably the best at that and their offense can really hurt us.

On to the second round, and say between the top 5 teams (OKC, Hou, Clips, Blazers), The most favorable to me is Houston. I think we ca neutralize Howard from having monster games. We do have big bodies. And we're a team that doesn't foul much and send guys to the FT line and we defend the 3 well. It's the midrange that hurts us and Harden isn't a good midrange scorer. So I'm thinking our defensive strengths matches well with their strength.

The least favorable is obviously OKC.

And then we meet OKC in the WCF and whatever happens happens.

If we are healthy and playing well, the only team in the West that could beat us is OKC. The rest of the conference is full of teams that win alot of games but the Spurs normally pick apart come a playoff series.

Now I prefaced that with "if we are healthy and playing well". If not, any team in the West 1 through 8 could take us out.

As far as the Clippers go, I'm sure they could get to the WCF with a good seeding and a little luck. I say that because Doc Rivers is there. I'm not sure they are mentally there to win a title yet though.

i don't want to see Portland at all in the play-offs. This year they have me worried, them and OKC ofc.

I'd rather have houston in the semis than the clippers. Howard can be made to look like a fool in that short amount of time that a play-off series is.

Whilst i have been impressed by Griffin this year, because of Paul i don't want the clippers anywhere near the WCF.

The only teams in the West that worry me are OKC and Golden State.

If Davis and Granger can play solid ball for them, along with getting Reddick and Crawford back, I think that the Clippers are a lot bigger threat to win it all than people seem to think.

Griffin is playing at a very high all around level and Jordan has definitely improved this year. I expect Paul to have a good but not great playoff run. If their role players come through they are a threat to anyone. And they have so many decent role players, that there is a realistic chance that a couple of them will be good on any given night.

I'm really hoping that the Spurs don't meet them until the finals.

My only concerns are the Thunder and to a lesser extent the Grizz. All other teams are beatable to me.

Out of the top 4, I'm least worried about the Clippers. I think they're a good matchup for us.
