Value of Haywood (And his 10M non-guaranteed contract)

Wiz fan here. Didn't see a previous thread about Haywood and his contract... I'm wondering if he carries any value for you guys with his contract structure (2M in 2014/15, 10M non-guaranteed in 2015/16)?

We already know and that's why he's referred to as "Dust Chip". We'll use it when the time is right.

Fair enough. I just wasn't sure if you'll had any intention of moving him for talent now. I.E. Trevor Booker, Webster, Andre Miller (Neal/ Haywood for Miller, then waive Miller as only 2M of his 4M is guaranteed)

I would trade Neal and Haywood for Andre Miller and not waive him. We need a good sized veteran backup PG and Miller fit that description. A lot of us aren't that high on Neal after the playoffs and Haywood is a walking retirement plan to be announced.

We have cap space. I am not inclined to trade Haywood to fill a need we can fill some other way.

So you're saying you want to do Neal/Haywood for Miller? Let's make it happen now.

I would love that.

The best part is that if we want to use up some cap space, we can instantly free up 3M by waiving him.

It seems like a good trade to me. We will need Haywoods Balloon Payment after we resign Gortat/Ariza this summer as we wont have cap space. It doesnt do you'll as good because you'll have cap space next year. Ill call Ernie and you call Cho

BWOOD's got 2 years left on his contract right? How much do we owe him next 2 seasons..2 mil each?
OR
Is it 2 mil this year and 10 mil next? :banghead: Does he have trade value?

Charlotte also assumes payment of his 2015-16 contract amount unless he is waived before 8/1/15  :cuddle :kiss  :naaa:

In other words in the offseason of 2015-2016 we can trade Haywood's contract combined with Henderson's (assuming he opts in, why wouldn't he) and trade for max contract if we choose so. It works number-wise, value-wise it depends. The receiving team would then had till end of July 2015 to waive Haywood (or to pass him further to be waived by the team which he ends up with) and have Henderson on expiring contract to mix with (probably) rebuilding team full of young players in some kind of rich man's role of what we had Maggette for.

Basically Haywood's 2015-2016 contract could allow us to go significantly over the cap and would serve as quasi trade exception (as acquiring team would just waive him) only with the benefit his contract can be combined with other pieces in a trade (you have to trade TPE alone and do separate trades for the rest pieces if needed).

Wiki says
Teams above the cap (or teams below the cap but would end up more than $100,000 over the cap following a trade) cannot acquire more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary they trade away. Under the 2011 CBA, teams that remain below the luxury tax threshold even after the trade can acquire the lesser of 150% plus $100,000, or 100% plus $5 million, of the salary they trade away. There is no lower limit—teams may divest themselves of as much salary as they wish (or can convince another team to take on) in a trade.

So depending on our cap space situation, Haywood alone could get us nearly 16M of incoming contracts other teams would want to unload to us in a trade involving Haywood, without us having any cap space.
