Getz retires after losing job with Blue Jays

Post#1 » by Back2back2back » Fri May 16, 2014 2:45 pm

Chris Getz, who appeared in 10 games for the Toronto Blue Jays this year, has decided to retire. The 30-year-old was designated for assignment after collecting four hits in 25 at bats for Toronto.

I guess if you can't win the 2B job in Toronto, you might as well retire.

and I guess this organization feels playing Lawrie at 2nd base is the best answer.

Well, we won't call him up again.

Good luck plumbing or whatever former Jays second basemen do.

He was probably next in line to get called up for AA's weekly random roster shuffle.

I doubt he actually retires. Maybe he takes the season off and comes back with another organization. He's only 30!

This. The major league minimum is $500K... he could still have a better career money-wise by being on a major league roster 20% of the time than most "regular person" jobs.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I've wished that scrubs would retire for years, even yelled it at a few of them during games. It looks like one finally did.

Very glad I won't have to watch Getz play for this team again.

That does come with a pretty nomadic lifestyle, however. Wouldn't be surprised if he turns up as a coach in the Royals system, where he'd make a decent living without having the relocate every two weeks.

I'll take that nomadic lifestyle if you paid me a minimum of $500K. :)

I had really weird dream about Chris Getz last night...that somehow another team had signed him and then traded him back to us. Was a bit upset... then as I pieced it back together I realized the player we traded for him was some random loser I knew in high school. So not a bad deal really!
