Trading Perkins
No I am not an OKC fan but after watching this season and playoffs it seems like the Thunder could improve by trading Perkins. If Washington thinks they won't be able to resign Gortat I'm sure they will consider a sign and trade.
Perkins & one your 1st round picks
For Gortat/46th pick & 2015 2nd round pick
I figure Washington would if they know they won't resign Gortat. I definitely think this is an upgrade for the Thunder as well since their frontcourt seemed to struggle with Perkins and the combo of Gortat & Ibaka would be just as good on D but also better on the offensive end.
Would you make that trade?

Yes. I don't think anyone would turn this down, other than Washington, I don't see them touching this. I think Perk and a pick for a TPE is doable, then either use the TPE for a big or find an MLE guy. As for this, I don't think anyone here will say no.

Re: Trading Perkins
Washington doesn't have a 1st rd pick & Perkins contract expires next year. So if they know they won't resign Gortat it seems smarter to trade for Perkins & 1st rounder plus use MLE on someone else to help with their roster as well.

Re: Trading Perkins
I couldn't see the Thunder doing this for one big reason...Steven Adams. They aren't signing Gortat to any length of contract...and especially not what he wants to make.
Perk is expiring so Adams is the starter of the future. This trade misses that up...and with cap space for the future.

Re: Trading Perkins
This makes no sense for the Thunder. They upgrade their backup center position from Perkins to Gortat, but at the cost of not having the financial flexibility to re-sign Reggie. Adams will be the primary center next year. The Thunder give up a first round pick, which would be a higher ceiling player then Gortat. They now have to find minutes for both Adams and Gortat at center and neither can play PF. They lose Reggie to RFA or trade him for a draft pick. When they already have their future backup center in Pleiss about to come over from Europe.

Re: Trading Perkins
I would not. Gortat is on the downside of his career. I think the Thunder are going to resign Perk to a new deal worth about 2 million a year. Perk is 3 months younger than Gortat, and will cost a lot more. Why bring in Gortat when you have Adams.

Gortat's stast:
Regular season stats: 13.2ppg 9.5rpg 1.5blk
Postseason stats: 13.0ppg 9.9rpg 1.3blk
I got respect for Adams but he is not a starter & would not put up stats like this as a starter. 1st round picks are great but they have to develop. Thunder are in a win now mode. Still think they can resign Jackson and though they don't want to go over the luxury tax they may have to in order to win a championship. Right now the Thunder can't get over the hump because Ibaka is the only above average front court player they have. Pleiss might be their future center be it will also take him time to adjust to the NBA game.

Re: Trading Perkins
I understand Gortats stats and also his defensive liability. Adams will have much better defense with similar offense next year.
Even with a drop the few years of extra pay to Gortat is not in OKCs sustainable structure.
Agree to disagree here.

Re: Trading Perkins
With the news of Miami's supposed interest in Perkins, what could we reasonably get from the Heat? Excluding the "big 3," there isn't really anyone on their roster that stands out to me as a possible impact player(s) for us that would make sense. Maybe Cole/Chalmers as a backup point. James Jones as a bench shooter. Michael Beasley as a bench scorer. As weird as this sounds, I just don't see any of them having as much of an impact as Perkins would on this team.

Ya'll can't be serious. Your team needs a guy like Gortat to win it all

I wish. I hope the Miami rumor is true. Unfortunately I doubt it.

Re: Trading Perkins
If Perkins gets traded to Miami it would be because LeBron is leaving and Riley is trying to put short-term pieces in place that he thinks can help them make a playoff run next year and clear the books for next off-season to put another big 3 together when he'll just have Wade, Bosh and a rookie under contract. They are supposed to be interested in Nappier so I could see Perkins and #21 for #26 and #55 as a possibility. The Heat take Nappier at #21 and get a center that can bang in the paint with Hibbert and Noah. OKC gets a big trade exception and a late 2nd round pick for a draft and stash player.

Re: Trading Perkins
Yeah, there are a lot of benefits in dumping his $9M+ salary. I guess I wasn't thinking of it like that. I'd imagine a move like this would signify some big moves/changes coming for OKC. There are some pretty big names out there: Monroe, Gortat, Hawes, Gasol, Asik, etc. as replacement candidates. Adams could realistically be starting next year and they'd just need to sign quality depth at a reasonable price.
I actually like Perk despite his pathetic offense. I just wish he was on a reasonable salary and coming off the bench in a more limited role.

Disagree. Adams is better defensively, has long-term upside, and doesn't need touches. He's a good fit. We need a shooter to space the floor more than anything. When Caron was hitting his 3s we looked great, but he really fell off in the playoffs.

Re: Trading Perkins
My 11 year old son likes Durant and LeBron, and so he says, "Daddy, I wish they could play together." So I go to trade machine. I went with a sign and trade, better for Miami than getting nothing if LeBron leaves.
Heat get Westbrook, Perry Jones, Perkins, and future picks
OKC gets LeBron, James Jones, and rights to Shabazz Napier
I think Reggie Jackson would do a very good job taking over for Westbrook. Sign somebody like Ray Allen or Mike Miller on the cheap.
Jackson / Napier
Lamb / Allen
Durant / James Jones
LeBron / Collison
Ibaka / Adams / Thabeet
Thunder would be so nasty, just look at that starting lineup. Think about the flexibility of what positions players could play

If Lebron is leaving he gets to pick his destination. If he wanted to come to OKC (make no mistake, he doesn't

I'd rather beat Lebron honestly
Plus this starting lineup is pretty small with Lebron at the 4 and Ibaka at the 5. It might work against teams in the East, but in the Western Conference guys like Z-Bo and Gasol would feast.
