If we still had the pick and embiid was there at #9 would anyone take a chance with him

Re: The 2014 Draft Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
Without a doubt. I'd still take him first overall if his back didn't look like it was going to be a huge deal. He is miles ahead of Parker or Wiggins as a prospect, and certainly ahead of whoever else would be there at 9. I suppose it isn't as hard for me to take the risk since my job isn't actually on the line, but IMO there isn't a close second to Embiid in this draft. Besides, if you let him take his time to recover, you can tank more easily.RSCD3_ wrote:If we still had the pick and embiid was there at #9 would anyone take a chance with him

I'd also rather pick him and let him improve his value rather than trade down, since at the time of the draft, the value of the picks would be considered closer than it really should be. After a year or two, we can either decide to keep Embiid next to Drummond since they are both pretty mobile, or trade him for much better value once he's proven himself to be as good as he will be.

Re: The 2014 Draft Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
Its hard to say given we really don't need a center and he doesn't fit alongside Drummond.
Would he get the time and possessions needed to develop here?
If we were a team that needed a bigman I'd gamble on him as high as 4 or 5.

Glen Robison III would be nice in the second round, we lack highly athletic true SF. He has high upside.

Late first rounders are reportedly not for sale($$) but will take a future first, a player, or taking on a (bad) contract, to get one.

Re: The 2014 Draft Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
As a UM fan I can't say that I'm super high on him. He had every opportunity to take the next step as a player but continued to be pretty passive, and he didn't stand out as a shooter, rebounder, defender or passer. He can certainly improve his shot, as he has some spots on the floor where he can make them, but given his attitude, I can't see him as being anything more than a glue-guy. Cuts, spots up, and doesn't get killed on defense, that's probably his best case scenario.Blkbrd671 wrote:Glen Robison III would be nice in the second round, we lack highly athletic true SF. Of course, that would be nice to have here, and he certainly could fall to us. I would hardly be upset if he became a Piston, I'm just hoping that we land a better prospect. It's a pipe-dream, perhaps, but whatever.

Its been a while since we've had a freak athletic SF. It is most definitely a need , and if he can translate his athleticism to defense in his rookie year, its most definitely worth the risk in the second round.
Joe Harris is interesting due to his shooting stroke.

Well I don't see how people can say Monroe and Drummond can work very well yet embiid who is more athletic, and has a far better jumper is a worse fit

IIRC it was Mannix. If you think I made it up - suit yourself. I couldn't care less.

I don't think anyone thinks you made it up, but I like context about things I read about. We have a thread on how SVG is hinting at getting rid of Monroe because SVG said Smith was a good defender. You know how people are on here, all their exaggerations. It's just safer to see it for ourselves and know that someone didn't take "OKC doesn't want to sell its pick, will only consider such 'n such offer" as "no one is selling picks, they want future picks and players for these picks." 5

Re: The 2014 Draft Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
We need to move up to the late first round or even up a few spots in the second round. Either way though we will still have some pretty solid options on draft night. Were still in a position at 38 that would be like picking in the 20s or late teens in most drafts. We should be able to have a legit shot at guys like Bogdanovic, Daniels, Harris, Dinwiddie, or maybe move up and grab Early.
Bogdanovic is a lottery type talent even in this deep draft in my opinion but its just a matter of how long we would have to wait for him to come over.

Re: The 2014 Draft Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
Chad Ford has players 20-40 ranked in the same tier in his "draft tiers" column. I know it's just one guy, but off of that we'd have to make a pretty big jump up from #38 into the late teens to really see a change in the level of prospect. We already have Drummond / KCP / Singler / Datome / Siva / Mitchell as young players on the roster, guys like Datome & Mitchell can't even get a shot at decent PT. I get wanting to add prospects but we don't have a quantity problem, our problem is the lack of plus starters at the 1-2-3 spots and I don't see using assets to jump up 10 spots as addressing those needs.
If we can buy a pick, great, but taking on a bad contract just to jump 10 spots isn't worth it.

Still so wrong about Datome, expect to see him play for SVG, time will tell.

Yeah I actually think we are still sitting alright at 38 but I would like to try and move up a few spots just to ensure we and grab Early if hes there.

Re: The 2014 Draft Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
Saric signs with Turkish team, means not NBA bound for two seasons. Randle might need surgery as well. Along with Embiid's foot surgery a lot of the high lotto bigs are dropping - has to raise value of Monroe and Smoove one would have to assume.
Saric becomes an epic draft and stash for somebody though - Chicago or PHX will probably grab him with their mid/late teens pick.

What do you guys think about taking Deandre Daniels? His flaw is being a twig but he has a nice skillset.
