The LeBron James Thread

Post#1 » by myersia » Tue Jun 24, 2014 2:36 pm

He just opted out. All things LeBron should go here. He should be our #1 option obviously. Anything he wants..he gets! This could be our Shaq like transaction!

Typically this should be put in the free agency thread but this is the best player on the planet. In addition, we will likely have a lot of posts regarding this issue. Thus, it seems best to have this as a standalone thread to update news and discuss the possibilities. Mods feel free to merge if you feel it is necessary.

This is true....BUT we shocked the world when we got shaq. Trust in Mitch and Jim. You know they have been waiting for this for a long time. Let's see what they can do. It's a big IF that is highly unlikely. But I give our lakers brass a fighting chance.

 don't forget we have our 7th pick as well. Add Randle, Smart, or Gordon there. Or Embiid.

Guys get excited. Stop being debbie downers. It's highly unlikely but let's have some fun and let the dream stand until or IF he re-signs.

So there will be 3 periods in the free agent period:
1. The period till Lebron decides
2. The period till Carmelo decides
3. The free agent period

Question. Could we offer poison pill type contracts where they will balloon in two years? (after Kobe's deal comes off)

typical bias against LAL. the truth is that there are only two viable teams (other than MIA, which needs Wade and Bosh to leave a bunch of $ on the table) that don't have to rely on multiple teams to help out in trades in order to have adequate room to sign Lebron and Melo: LAL and DAL. They aren't teaming up in ATL, sorry Hawks fans. Assuming that Lebron and Melo want to play together, these are the only two realistic possibilities. Everything else is just noise. However, in order for LAL to be viable, Nash, Sacre and the pick have to be traded for a future pick. Given that LAL has a high lottery pick this should not be difficult. However, please understand the cap before you post anything about other players. If this happens it will be Kobe+Lebron+Melo. That is it. No Pau, no pick, no Nash. The remainder of the roster will have to be minimum deals and exceptions.

I might get flamed for this, but i wouldn't even offer him a contract. I'd rather aim for longshot Durant and I don't want the Le-Dbag circus coming to town.

I'm torn... I would love the Lakers to 'win' the LeBron sweepstakes... But if LeBron leaves Miami, he'll basically have left 2 orgs that essentially handed him the keys to the city... If we did acquire him, I have a feeling it'd be basically like acquiring Howard. I don't feel like LeBron would have any strong commitment to the Lakers.

So on a pure 'do I want LeBron James on the Lakers' level... I agree with DD.

But I'm torn on the issue of whether I want the Lakers to win the 'LeBron Sweepstakes.'

I dont care if LeBron may leave after his next deal (though I would say that's about as low of a possibility as it is him leaving Miami this year), if we have the opportunity to sign LeBron, we do it. Plain and simple. No questions asked.

The Lakers win championships. That's our only course of action as a franchise. It's what we aim for every year. Signing the best player in the game is a good way to do that.

NO, James, Melo and other MAX FA are set to that max and annual max, they only take less in annual per year. None of that asik/lin ballon stuff. As for Shaq ref.....that era had no max salary and we pretty much gave Shaq the richest NBA contract of all time at that time, we dont have that luxury anymore now and if anything James would have to take a paycut to come here even if its just him, I think his max is like 22-23 with Mia we'd could only do 20mill right now.

We are more than capable of offering LeBron a max deal with our current salary situation.
