Hawks-Gasol?

Post#1 » by simon24 » Sat Jul 12, 2014 12:48 am

Atlanta making aggressive, late pitch for Pau Gasol, league sources tell Yahoo. $11M-plus a year, sources say. Gasol likely passes on offer, per @WojYahooNBA.

I'm guessing the Hawks are down with their backcourt. If he passes, I'm guessing they go after Monroe.

I'm surprised they're after Gasol since Horford is coming back and Millsap coming off an all-star season at PF

well at least they are trying. I think that would be a good signing. Though I believe Gasol would take less to go to Houston, Cleveland, Maimi etc.

True, I could see that.

I wonder does this mean Ferry is looking to shake up the front court

Well, Sheridan stated we were only 1 player away from being a contender. I don't think so at this stage. We still need upgrades in the starting lineup, and not just one position.

I would welcome Gasol here. It just hard to see him pass on going to say the Thunder or Spurs to come here even if we do offer more money.

He is not coming here neither is any other significant free agent. We need some sort of trade. Monroe will not even sign a $11 million dollar offer sheet with us

yea, Gasol would be great in our system and I'd like to get him, but I can't see him not signing with a true contender

Money being equal I think the Spurs and Thunder would be ahead of us. That being said how much cap room do each of those teams have to offer Gasol?

Also, if the Spurs need cap room to sign him maybe we could strike a deal for Splitter?

With Spurs, OKC, and Bulls all after Gasol, there's no way he's coming to Atl.

If he is smart he would know the easier path to the championship would be in the East. And honestly, our roster is better than Chicago's by a smidge.

Spurs can only offer the MLE. Chicago will have to do a sign and trade and send Boozer + young assets to LAL.

Thanks for Spurs cap info. Wonder if we could get in on a 3 way with the Spurs and Lakers? We get Splitter and use a 2nd and Jenkins as assets.

I love Gasol coming to the Hawks.

But we can't make him our 4th option in Free Agency and expect him to come here. I advocated Gasol 7 weeks ago.

Why is Ferry waiting until the last minute for pursuit of this guy.

It's like what I was saying last summer. You spend all that time chasing guys you have not shot to get, you miss out on guys we actually have a shot at getting.

If we'd just made Gasol our target from Day one and put on a full-court press to get him, we'd have a better shot.

As opposed to waiting until all the other options have signed elsewhere...

Gasol isn't coming here we just signed bazemore.

Pretty sure our off season is done . this means Deng is out I would think

We still have 9 mil and some change left. Don't resign Scott or Antic and we still have 11. Gasol is a stretch but maybe it becomes a possibility if LAL and Chi can't work out a Sign and trade.

Deng has pretty much been waiting on Bron to leave Miami so he could slide on in there. Gasol had KD & Westbrook courting him. No way either of those guys were coming here.

No we are actually at 9 players. that is Teague, Schroder,DMC, Korver, Millsap, Muscala, Jenkins, Payne, Horford.
we mad QA to Mack, Antic, and Scott so they are RFA but free agents none the less. but re don't have to bring them back. Patterson is a 2nd round pick so he is not guaranteed to make the team. and Thabo has agreed to a deal but has not signed it yet.
So if we get Gasol with the addition of Bazemore we would have 11 We then Sign Mack and/or Scott to reach the cap and then bring Thabo in on a partial MLE around 4 million a year. With Gasol there wouldn't be a reason to keep Antic so he would be out the door. That is 13 players and Patterson could make 14 if we kept both Mack and Scott.
