What might become of the LACs?

Post#1 » by Agnostifarian » Sun Jul 27, 2014 1:05 pm

I am a Sixer fan. I come in peace. If Donald Sterling is able to block the sale of LAC and Doc Rivers and the players opt to boycott playing, what might be the NBA's response?

Could Adam Silver "free" the players but also preserve value for the LAC franchise by "trading" the existing LAC players for cash and/or future draft picks that a new owner could use to restock the team. Maybe the LAC games would all be forfeited in 2014/2015. Maybe there could be an "expansion type draft" for the new LAC owner...

As an example, a team like CLE, in need of rim protection, might give up future draft picks and cash for Deandre Jordan, etc... and so it would go for all the LAC players and Doc himself.

This would obviously be an "extraordinary" situation that would require collaboration between the union and the NBA.

Obviously, we'd all like to see your existing core continue to grow and a "total rebuild" would blow after coming so far but I'm interested to know how your Board sees this playing out if Sterling is still in the picture come Fall.

Peace out.

I look at your name and see all your favourite teams and realize I hate you right off the bat, Putting my personal feelings aside I realize that ALL the NBA, even the under achieving Draft Tanking teams would love to see the Clippers fail.
Clipper Nation is strong, we will voice "OUR" opinion together and we hope for a resolution that will be finalized with the sale of the Clippers.
Agnostifarian, you don't seem to voice or care what happens to Clipper Season Ticket Holders who have seen their seats rise in value about 37% over the past 4 years, you just want our players. If Sterling still is the owner, Adam Silver will have to let the PLAYERS boycott while still being paid by the HUGE coffers the NBA has in savings while keeping the team in tact for when ever they play again. Silver is part of the problem b/c he acted so swiftly thinking he had tied up every angle, but now he needs to be part of the solution.
Peace Out

I agree that Silver is in a pickle and will have to do something else soon if Sterling hangs on. I completely understand how crappy this situation is for LAC fans!!! I love watching your team play.

I hadn't considered the possibility of the NBA paying the existing LAC players not to play...

The fate of the Clippers all comes down to the judge's decision, and whether or not Donald Sterling will appeal and his injunction of the sale is approved. If Michael Levanas votes in favor of Shelley, the Clippers are saved. If Levanas votes in favor of Donald, the NBA will resume its termination hearing. Either way, Donald is a sly and slippery eel, for he'll still try to make things difficult for the NBA to free the Clippers.

Now, should Sterling's lawsuit go through, and it includes such words as "conspiracy," "bribery," and "game fixing," the NBA may have no other choice but to contract the Clippers in an attempt to prevent Sterling from seizing the team and making them an independent entity. That's when Adam Silver puts up a dispersal draft; all the players, coaching staff and employees are released; and the NBA becomes a 29-team league. Remember how Sterling hired private investigators to dig up dirt? During the probate hearing, Steling previewed the dug up dirt by calling David Stern out in regards to where the $150 million went, alleging that the former commissioner stole money.

Clipper fans have suffered for years under the hands of Donald Sterling. They can't wait for this man to be removed from the league, and rejoice in their new-found freedom. But they have to understand that the solution will not come in bouquets and confetti. The court hearings are a process; it could take additional months, maybe even one or a couple of years to see a resolution. Players and coaches boycotting is the same thing as Donald Sterling baiting the NBA into contracting the team, which is what Donald Sterling wants. As much it hurts for them to play for a bigoted racist and scam artists, if the Clippers want their franchise to live, they will have to pretend that everything is normal. Play the games, make the playoffs, win the championship. If the Clippers try to run away from their problems, they will be just like their evil owner. They must stand up to his sadistic plans. Face your fears.

Bigger question is what are other players going to do...

They will play for their families and their money.

1. DTS won't win his lawsuit
2. If he magically does, Silver has already said DTS will be removed as owner and the league will sell the Clippers to the new highest bidder

That is all. Some of you are looking way too much into this and are way too worried imo
