Wild Speculation and Predictions - Summer of 2016
Other than team options it holds, the Charlotte Hornets have literally no contractual obligations beyond the 2015-16 season.
Anyone want to play fortune teller and predict what our roster and cap situation will be like after summer of 2016?
Rampant unfounded speculation and predictions encouraged.

Can the whole restricted free agents thing blow up in the next CBA? Or somehow let the RFA choose between the team that offered him the contract and his original team if they match. If so Anthony Davis is a Hornet.

Re: Wild Speculation and Predictions - Summer of 2016
Players we will have under contract in 2016
MKG (extension) lets say 8 million
Kemba (extension) lets say 10 million
Lance (team option) 9.4 million
Cody (team option) 5.3 million
Noah (rookie deal) around 3.5 million (guess)
PJ (rookie deal if we keep him) around 1.5 million (guess)
2015 rookie(s)
My guess is we will not pick up Zellers option (because of Vonleh) unless we plan on starting Zeller at PF and Noah at C, If Lance is an All-Star by then (likely) we will pick him up on a bargain

Re: Wild Speculation and Predictions - Summer of 2016
Unfortunately it's way too early to say what the effect of a new CBA will have on RFA. I wish we had more of a hint as to which way the owners/union are leaning at the moment, right now I could see it cutting two drastically different ways:
On the one hand I could see it getting blown up altogether because the "player sharing" (as teams are apparently calling it internally) that is beginning to take place turns the league into a 365-day event and rakes in NFL-level cash. I get the feeling that if the league ever does away with RFA it would be also have to be tied to a move towards a hard cap. The harsh multi-year luxury tax penalties seem like a stepping stone towards a hard cap, something that would create much more player movement like the NFL has, and would also make RFA much less necessary
On the other hand, if by 2016 the small market teams think the new "player sharing" dynamic has heavily favored the large markets I wouldn't be shocked to see some sort of franchise tag be seriously considered. It already got floated out last time, but never gained much traction. If the franchise tag comes into being with the new CBA, kiss Anthony Davis goodbye.
Regardless of how the new CBA shakes out it seems like Cho is going all-in for 2016. I love the plan as currently constituted. We are in great shape to improve in both 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, hopefully making noise in the playoffs, just in time to sell this upward trajectory to all the prospective free agents. At the absolute worst even if we get spurned by the big names there will be plenty of teams (such as Cleveland/Chicago/Houston this year) who will be in a frenzy to clear even more space and we can fleece some assets from them. I really like where we stand, if Cho plays his hand intelligently we're looking at a win-win.

It's just a wild speculation based on past info.
He obviously won't be if the RFA rules stay the same. NO will match in a heartbeat.
Rumors before he was drafted was that he wanted to be in Charlotte. Being from Chicago his family are huge MJ fans. He was even photographed with Charlotte Hornets gear on the weeks leading up to the draft. Also he and MKG are best friends.
This thread is about wild speculation so putting all that together plus the fact we are making a concerted effort to win, unlike NO, makes people hope/want it to happen.

My guess is that Al opts out next summer and signs a massive extension for another 3 years and Bismack gets a long term $5M extension. Even then we'd be a Cody+PJ trade away from a huge signing.

A more realistic target is Curry. Durants from DC, Currys from Charlotte. I could see it happening.

I think Lance is super sixth man in that scenario. Kemba and Curry share the backcourt to start and close each half and spend the entire 4th quarter together.

Re: Wild Speculation and Predictions - Summer of 2016
2016. The world is in turmoil. As the great food wars spread from nation to nation, sea levels rise to engulf the entire east and west coast. America lives under a brutal state of martial law, while the remaining inland NBA cities turn to blood sport to pacify the masses. Basketballs are made of human skin, Derrick Rose wears a cloven skull as a helmet, and the Spurs are now known as Los Baby Killers.
Commander Lance Stephenson leads a rag tag band of former Hornets that have taken to the Carolina Sea aboard a fleet of pirate ships: Freedom fighters that wage a constant battle to regain coastal Tennessee, with the help of the solar-powered ChoBot and aided by the pre-flood discovery of PJ Hairston’s hidden cache of high powered assault weapons.
This is sort of what I see happening, more or less.

Re: Wild Speculation and Predictions - Summer of 2016
Is there a chance that the players could fight for the ability to become less restricted free-agents after their 4th year in the league, that could force Anthony Davis into possibly becoming a part of the Charlotte Hornets? I could see that happening at the next CBA dispute from the players' committee, especially upon viewing how it appeared that Kyrie Irving felt unfortunately locked into being in Cleveland until LeBron James came along and re-ignited the fortunes of the team
