Cesc Fàbregas was signed by Chelsea in the offseason to replace Frank Lampard.
"Frank is the history of the club, history nobody can forget," said José Mourinho.
"Fàbregas is the future; history is history but the future is more important at the moment."
Fàbregas previously played in the EPL for Arsenal before returning to Barcelona.
