@NinersNation: Trent Baalke says the 49ers tried to trade up for Odell Beckham Jr. http://sbnation.com/e/7229362

Cost was too high. Baalke's goof was drafting the FS Ward and playing him at slot CB.

I can't fault Baalke for not pulling the trigger on a costly trade-up. But Ward was a baffling move. We could've at least settled for a Jordan Matthews. :banghead:

If that was the trade....we shouldn't have taken it. Where would we have been without Borland, Hyde, and Martin both short term and long term?

That being said Ward got abused over and over this year. Not feeling good about him....at all. Even without the trade the pick feels underwhelming right now.

I haven't had the best track record in position flexibility recommendations but I really hope the new coaching staff doesn't ping-pong him back and forth from here on out.

With Reid's concussion history I'm more inclined to get him ready to be a safety. Slot is not his thing. And his confidence doesn't need to be destroyed.

Without Bethea we are weak back there. And Dahl needs to go......
