Sunderland has fired Gus Poyet as manager and are set to appoint Dick Advocaat as temporary manager.
Steve McClaren, former manager of England, is believed to be the club's preferred long-term target.
Poyet was relieved of his duties in the aftermath of Saturday’s disastrous 4-0 home defeat to Aston Villa that left them one point clear of the relegation zone.
