Bulls front office top execs (GarPax) ranked as 14th Best

Post#1 » by Chicago-Bull-E » Wed Mar 25, 2015 6:58 pm

ESPN has done their front office rankings. The front office of the Bulls as a whole ranks 9th. This includes owner, GM, and coach.

They unveiled their Top Exec (GM) portion of the ranking, which has the Bulls (GarPax) as 14th.

Thoughts on this ranking?

Here's my first thought: Philadelphia is ranked 3 spots lower than Chicago, and ahead of 13 teams.

Like a lot of EPSN "panel of experts" articles this is pretty ignorable.

The Cavs are only 11 after going from lottery to leading title contender? OK.

Portland is #5 only behind Miami? How many titles has this management won?

I don't believe Danny Ferry deserves #6 for the team constructed, i think most of the credit goes to the players & Coach Bud.

The Clippers and TWolves are equal? Good lord. Rivers is terrible on trades but overall that FO has assembled a top WC team.

I think outside of #1 and #30, the list is pretty BS.

Thought they'd be higher than that overall, I guess they fell since last year.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, the front office rankings are brought up due to Thibs as coach as displayed by a ranking of 9 vs a ranking of 14 for GarPax. Can't say I disagree to that.

I think you need to get a bit more detailed than that. The Cavs are good because of Lebron. Players come to Cleveland because of him. We are talking about what specifically the top execs have accomplished. Players drafted, players signed, coaches signed. Applying wins and losses to them is far too vague.

That is the front office that drafted Anthony Bennett at 1. If anything, they might be too high.

Even setting aside my homerism for the Bulls - most of the ratings are bat sheeit crazy. Duck already mentioned a couple of the more egregious - but there are many more.

Yes that's my guess. Thibs will probably be ranked as top 3-5, and Reinsdorf will probably fall in that 9-13 area? Not completely sure if it's a straight average though.

And Miami is 4th. I guess there's an extended period of credit when you sign LeBron away from Cleveland, and a pause button on credit when you sign LeBron into Cleveland.

Philadelphia strikes me as a bit too high, even though I understand what they're doing.

Washington strikes me as too low. I like what they've done.

There are a few that stand out (3-5 maybe), but I like the rest.

The Boozer signing and Korver getting traded were the only things that didn't workout recently. This offseason, the Bulls made the best additions. Aaron Brooks for cheap. Signed an elite big man in Pau Gasol. Signed a future superstar in Nikola Mirotic.

Surely signing the best player on the planet AWAY from his hometown and resigning him to his hometown are different degrees of difficulty.

What they did before Lebron gifted them was pretty atrocious.

One team is a **** load better than the other, and will be for years. Having that good team 7 behind that irrelevant team is silly. But maybe its historical. Which explains why Boston is so high? Shout out to Red Auerbach!

I'm just going to ignore the Bulls' FO ranking other than saying this: Its based completely on these "in the know panel" guys having Thibs back. If there were no reports of bad blood that ranking would be dramatically higher.

Come on. You want to attribute that to the top execs of the Cleveland Cavaliers?

And I'm sure it is a bit historical. Wish they did explain a bit more. Or maybe they do and I can't find it.

I'm not sure how the Clips are 23rd and Utah is 15th. The Clips have fielded a much more competitive team in recent years. Like many teams Utah has some good young talent but I don't have a ton of confidence in guys like Trey Burke, Dante Exum, etc.

useless list-

You want an indication of how well your FO is doing, it's how many butts they put in the seats on an average night.

http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance

We're #1 at home and #2 on the road. Fans come out to see the Bulls at home or on the road.

Spurs not even in the top 10 on that list at home and #9 on the road and they are the 'champs'.

wha?

garpax is quite obviously better than 14. they've put together a winning team (and coach) despite 20 mil in dead salary the past few years. and winning is all that matters. few could pull off what they have

Oh god I can't give into the temptation of the troll ranking. The Bulls current FO drafted their entire core but one player, and did that with 1 single digit lottery pick, and the 10, 23, 26, and 30 picks. And signed the reigning Eastern Allstar starting center to a $7 million per year deal. And hired the coach that will no doubt be ranked in the top 3-4 when that ranking comes out.

I know there are a number of you rejoicing at this ranking, but by absolutely no objective criteria can that land you 14th based on quality. Which is why its so obvious this ranking, for the Bulls FO, is tainted by personality issues and gettin'ya'boy's back.

Now I'll really stop for good. Probably.

So the Bulls' top execs (GarPax) are ranked 14th, but the FO is ranked 9th.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12541459/nba-front-office-rankings-2015

Does this mean they like Reinsdorf a lot more than GarPax?

I agree with Duck that this ESPN kangaroo court is smacking the Bulls' FO (particularly Forman) upside the head for being mean to Thibodeau. I also agree that ESPN's method pretty much ensures that this thing is a waste of time.
