Who would you take in a draft that had Magic, Bird or Reggie Miller given this current Piston's squad?

Reggie's not in the conversation, it's Magic or Bird. I'd take Bird because he's still an incredible playmaker, but at his peak he was a better scorer than Magic and we could use a go to scorer.

Bird may be the better fit but I'd still take Magic without hesitation.

Bird. Better fit and there's not a wide enough gap in ability to worry about it. Hell, if Bird hadn't redone his own driveway, maybe he goes down being remembered as better than Magic.

Magic; You can put him at almost any position.

Easily Magic.

I don't care about fit from a positional standpoint, Magic makes everybody on the floor immensely better which automatically makes him the best fit for any team that doesn't currently have a ball dominant superstar on the roster.

So I'm the only one who doesn't think Magic is necessarily a clear BPA over Larry?

Honestly, I'd lean Larry. Not sure why Reggie is in this thread.

Bird, better fit, better player in my opinion. Magic isn't a guy I put very high on any all-time lists unless we're talking strictly PGs. I don't think he was ever the best player on a championship team.

Larry Bird on this team could get us 70 wins next season. Yes he was that good. His leadership and swagger alone are good for 15 wins. I still think Bird is a better passer in the half court than Magic.

I find it sorta funny that we're talking about how Bird or Magic would "fit in" with the mortals we have on the team now.

Pick the guy you think is best and then figure out the rest of the team around them.

(Didn't read the other responses yet)

First of all, the choices are filet mignon, lobster, or dog food. Miller's a good player and all, but yeah, make that choice Duncan or something if you want to include it.

My answer: Bird. Magic may be the BPA, but the gap from Magic to Reggie isn't the same as the gap from Bird to basically no one. Bird brings precisely what this team needs, too -- point forward, toughness, clutch scoring, leadership, and deadeye shooting.

Bird every time IMO

Drummond
Illyasova/Tolliver/Bird
Bird/KCP
KCP/Meeks
RJ/Dinwiddie/BJ

Bird is the alpha - plays both forward positions and brings it all!

He shoots from deep, takes & makes clutch shots, handles, runs PnR or PnP...

Love Magic but for this team its Bird

I'm not one to change my mind very often but you guys have swayed me. Bird.

RJ/KCP/Bird/E/Dre looks pretty tasty.

Bird for me. He just seems like he would fit in perfect and I just liked his hard a$$ attitude.
Magic would obviously make this team amazing as well.
It's pretty funny having Miller in the conversation with Bird and Magic, but adding him to the current team would be insane too.

Bird

He'd crush it in the current NBA style and his shooting answers our biggest team need. Add a SF 3&D we can throw at Lebron to platoon with Ersan in the forward spot opposite Bird, turn KCP & Jackson loose to be defensive bulldogs along with continued development from Dre and are legit East contenders.

I'm not going to crush anyone picking Magic, he's obviously got local ties and he's Magic, but his lack of shooting combined with Jackson is a bit worrisome.

Fits like a glove.
