Trader Stan
Talk about roster turnover. Looking at the current make-up of the Pistons roster, only three players remain from the day Stan Van took over the team. Drummond, KCP and Jennings. Pretty wild.
Stan said his guys were going to play the way he wanted, or he'd get someone who would. That apparently wasn't a bluff.
Has any other roster seen this kind of turnover in the last 12 months? I know Philly has a ton of turnover, but they're barely a basketball team anymore.

Stan is a winning coach (.610) so all of the predictions of us going under .500 are absurd. Stan has had one losing season, and one season without playoffs. Both last year.
Built the team he wants, and now it's winning time.

He has definitely taken steps to build his style of team. It's really all depends on the young guys now if they have taken a step forward this will be a feisty team if not, it gonna be a long season.

I love it. Flip these guys. Basketball isn't too hard to build at least a regular season winner. If you're losing start benching, cutting, and trading guys don't waste time. I love that it seems like Stan won't ever get attached to any player.

I will give him this year too. Next year my expectations would be high.

When it was announced we were gonna need a new coach SVG was my only choice.
The fact Gores gave him 100% power just made me happier!
Can you imagine giving up retirement to come to Detroit?
Stan obviously came for a reason...and he had a plan... he's THE most meticulous coach in the NBA.
If you assume that attribute extends to every aspect of his professional life (& we can assume that - look at our scouting team!) then you gotta believe he's not here to **** spiders! He's here to build a juggernaut the likes of which most here can't comprehend!
That's some impressive gangster ****! Give SVG time, step back and watch him work.
Worst case scenario? We still suck lol

Believe it or not, Stan does get very attached to about all his players. And, I am talking personally attached. He is more like their Mentor and father figure at times. Many former players have stated this.

I think the Cavs have made a couple of changes in that timeframe....

give him this year? It's Stan Van Gundy. We're lucky he decided to coach that pile of **** we called a team.
Don't get crazy and start having the audacity to put this man on a time table people. We know his body of work. The Kuesters, Currys and Franks are one Gores fire away from being a reality for another five years.

Re: Trader Stan
call me crazy but i think one of the big reasons Stan came here (besides having control over personnel) was Drummond. Drummond is literally the perfect center for his offense and obviously has the defensive potential. it makes it a lot easier to build a team when you have a building block like that.

That's nothing new, though. Doug Collins never would've taken our head coaching job in 1995 if Grant Hill hadn't been on the roster. I'm sure there are W-A-Y more examples of coaches accepting a job for the chance to work with a particular player than the other way around, like George Karl taking the SAC job and immediately alienating Cousins.

That's not crazy at all lol. I think that's pretty much a certified fact.

No Dre no SVG. That's a major reason why Stan came here.
And we've seen the pieces acquired - all revolve around Dre.
KCP & SJ hold are the keys though. If they can step up over the next 8 months then we're going to surprise a lot of people.
Throw in Morris, Baynes, Meeks and Illyasova...
We could make some noise if things go our way

That's great. He might not trade them and forget about them as people lol but he's not too attached to not flip them when it's time. Caring about all your players is good, but caring about your players past their real value doesn't seem to be a problem Stan has.

Yes, he got rid of (or let walk) all the garbage Dumars left. I fully believe Jennings, the one remaining piece of trash, would have been traded as well if not for the injury. Alas, he'll be gone by the end of this year, and the transition will then be complete.
I could see KCP going as well if he doesn't step it up...but I have a lot of hope for him.
I finally feel good about this franchise. Thanks SVG.
