Flip Saunders Passes Away at age 60

Post#1 » by Bakuto » Sun Oct 25, 2015 6:29 pm

I dunno how to put things into an original post, but I figure you guys heard already.

I loved him when he coached us. I didn't take too kindly to Dumars when he fired him.

**** Cancer for real.

Rest in peace, Coach!

He was a polarizing figure for the team during his time here, and in retrospect a lot of it was unwarranted. Good basketball mind and a all round good guy.

Very saddening to hear.

He presided over the best regular season record in franchise history- 64-18, better than any other modern era Piston team and exceeding the win total of all bad boy teams as well.

I don't care what his record was as Pistons coach, I am gutted by this news. Rest in peace Flip. I pray for his family.

More to to life than basketball and this is one of those cases where it's exemplified.

RIP Flip.

The Detroit Pistons organization has released the following statement this afternoon regarding the passing of former head coach Phil “Flip” Saunders.

“It is with tremendous sorrow that the Detroit Pistons organization acknowledges the passing of Flip Saunders. He will be remembered by Pistons fans as one of the franchise’s most successful head coaches - leading the club to three consecutive Eastern Conference Finals appearances and a franchise-record 64 wins in 2005-06. Flip was a great ambassador for the Metro Detroit community and had a positive influence on those who had the opportunity to spend time with him. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Debbie, his children Ryan, Mindy, Rachel, Kimberly and all his friends throughout the extended Detroit Pistons and NBA family.”

Terrible news. I didn't know his cancer had progressed to that point. Best wishes to his friends and family.

This is very sad and hopefully there is a cure for cancer. I appreciated Flip Saunders helping the Pistons get to the Eastern Conference Finals from 2006-2008 during his three seasons with the club. R.I.P. and condolences to his wife and children.

Solid+ coach and a much better person, from all I've seen and read.

A sad day in basketball.

Flip was a very nice guy. Kind of guy you wouldn't see for 5 years and then you bump into each other and catch up.

Shame to see this.

RIP. Shame we couldn't win a chip while he was here, but he gave us some great memories en route to finishing 6 straight ECF appearances.

Very sad, really loved Flip when he coached here. He was the last real coach we had before the SVG era.

Heard the guy was in a coma before he passed away from pneumonia. That'a awful.
