Why don't we Use Marcus Morris like Draymond Green?
draymond green's assists numbers are very high. he is very good in transition. but most of his half court assists come from after pick and roll which he play with stephen curry. curry passes the ball to him when they play high pick and roll, he dribbles one or two steps, opponents brings help defender and he kicks the ball the open player.
morris is very good passer and has high basketball iq like green. he sees open players and mismatches? what do you think, what do I miss?

I actually really like Marcus in some high pick and roll situations with Andre... Certain PF's just can't stay with Marcus off the dribble and they've had some success in limited minutes running it... Harris, Reggie, and KCP can all usually hit the open jumper that Marcus creates or he can take his man right to the rack off the dribble, or pull up for the jumper which will eventually create looks inside for Dre off the pick and roll to the rim.

most of his half court assists come from after pick and roll and post ups. he is not lebron james type point forward. he doesn't dribble that much.

Of course he can't according to you. Every single Piston is a scrub and the team should be sold to Australia.pistontr wrote:most of his half court assists come from after pick and roll and post ups. he is not lebron james type point forward. he doesn't dribble that much.

Agree. Green gets a lot of easy lobs to Bogut that way too. We could do the same with Reggie>Morris>Dre.
We need to fix this shooting issue first though or we'll never have room to run it.

No. Not many can do what Green does. There's a reason they're so good. Green is a great player. It's like saying why can't "this person" be used like Ben Wallace. It's not happening. There's just instincts and IQ they have that can't be matched. It is what it is.

I actually do like seeing Marcus Morris in Draymond Green's role. Unfortunately, no matter how versatile they are, not many can play like Draymond.

SJ is closer to Draymond than Morris. If he can only grow an inch or two.

Re: Why don't we Use Marcus Morris like Draymond Green?
Well, play with the TWO best shooters ever maybe brings him an extra seconds and space to assists and think the upcoming play.
I mean, Green is a hell of a player, but there's no way he could get that number of assists playing in this team, for example.

Obviously having Klay & Curry among others buys Green some time...and in the NBA that half a second is huge...but let's not under sell Green here either.
Dude has instincts and had worked very hard to become the player he is now.
The reason Mook can't be used like Green is:
1 - he ain't yet on Green's level when it comes to reading and reacting to the D
2 - he doesn't get the cushion Green gets because our shooters aren't as deadly as Klay & Curry.
It's possible to use him in that role in the right line up though. I personally think that Baynes, Mook, Harris, Bullock, Blake is the group where we could experiment with it...but we're trying to make the playoffs right now so that's something that can wait

Re: Why don't we Use Marcus Morris like Draymond Green?
I've said for awhile now that Mook is a much better passer than advertised. It's the part of his game that has surprised me the most. I would love to see him facilitate more. He doesn't need to be a point-forward, just a contributor. People are too caught up in labels.

recently all our guys are doing a good job facilitating, even KCP whose passing skills are still uncertain

Marcus Morris' 1-on-1 game is superior to Draymond Green, and his handle is right there as well. He isn't seasoned in the role and it obviously took Draymond some time as well but I think Morris can be very good taking on more of a point forward role. I've been saying Marcus Morris is the best player on our team for like months now.
Yesterday was a big day for Marcus. He was getting his Carmelo on iso'ing getting buckets mid range, and he actually drew a double team. He turned the ball over, but let him get comfortable in that high/low post playmaking position when those double teams come. Then we have a post/iso playmaker.
Marcus Morris is the G.O.A.T. he has it all... stood toe to toe with Paul George, has defense, can hit 3's, can iso, can pass, finishes at the rack at a high percentage, great composure... I feel like if utilized and emphasized correctly moving forward he can be an All-Star. He very well may be the MVP in us stealing a playoff series where his versatility can really stand out. Marcus Morris is a top 25 NBA player with role player usage... he needs to eat into 20% of Reggie Jackson's usage #FreeMarcusMorris

Marcus Morris has been incredible for the Pistons that is for sure and for certain.313 Professor wrote:Pharaoh wrote:In SVG We Trust wrote:Well, play with the TWO best shooters ever maybe brings him an extra seconds and space to assists and think the upcoming play.

I am consistently on the fence about moving him to the bench as I just dont know if Johnson can be better then him. Morris's game has really blossomed here in Detroit and his post skills have become just disgusting.
I am unsure what to think about Morris right now as he has so far and away exceeded my expectations of him coming in, it thrown off my whole perception of molding the team moving forward.
The Suns made a massive error in judgment that only looks worse, and worse with each passing game. This is starting to get Chauncey Billups level of bad.

Re: Why don't we Use Marcus Morris like Draymond Green?
I went to a preseason game earlier this season, and as I watched Morris, I had a feeling he'd be a good fit.
Didn't think he'd be this good of a fit.

Yeah, having the splash brothers as a backcourt while he's in a HORNs high is what makes him so deadly. Once the defense blitzes Curry (which they do 9/10 times because of his limitless range) he just gives it out to Green from the top of the key for either a wide open 3 or a dribble drive layup/drop off pass to Bogut/Kickout to a curling Curry 3. Combined with Green's pretty high BBIQ, it makes it a deadly combo.
It's literally impossible to guard. We don't have the personnel from the 1 to the 3 spots to even run this.
