The typical game of the 2016 season

Post#1 » by Hedda Gambler » Sat Apr 23, 2016 1:02 pm

Morning all.

As the season is over for my own team, the Jazz, I am planning to use the next couple of months to get to know the 29 other teams in the league a bit better. I am going to watch at least 1 game from every team. To figure out what game to watch, I am asking for help from the fanbases of the other teams.

What I would like to watch, is the game you guys decide is the most typical game of this regular season. I am not looking for the best or the worst game, but the game that most accurately shows your teams strengths and weaknesses. If you are a good team, that would most likely mean it is a game you won, and if you are a bad team, it should be a loss.

Feel free to suggest any game of the season for me to watch. I appreciate all your help in my quest to get to know every team in the NBA a bit better.

difficult to say because the Clippers were a very different team throughout the season... whether it was the struggles at the beginning because of new players and injuries, or players getting traded like Smith and Stephenson, to Griffin getting hurt, to the Clippers really turning things around defensively after the allstar break

To add to it, Blaze, Doc playing possum with his roster just to throw off the opposition. The timing of the bench coming to life - in Game 1 of the playoffs, no less - was perfect. The issues with Griffin, however, were real and did try to affect their chances in the playoffs.

Hedda, here are some things you need to know:

1. The Clippers are the Eddie Guerrero of the NBA. They lie, cheat and steal - they rig games to steal wins. Definitely start with the Clippers-Blazers third meeting of the season. This is the one where a Portland staff member forgot to circle C.J. McCollum's name to dignify his active status. Supposedly, Doc got hold of this and was given the decision to play or disqualify McCollum from the game. Doc choosing the later resulted in a much easier opponent to beat, translating to an automatic win. Blazer fans have accused Doc of rigging the game by disqualifying McCollum.

2. In the same breath, Clippers are very gullible. Whenever their next opponent is a losing team projected to be in the lottery, or a previous lottery participant, they automatically call it a win. The biggest weakest for them has been underestimating weaker opponents, and they have a bad history of this. In 2012-13, they punched the Warrior's ticket into the playoffs by not taking Golden State seriously. Last season, after going up 3-1, Houston stole the series away by 1) waiting for Game 6 to make it a perfect advancement, 2) dropping their guard the instant James Harden was benched and scoring 100 points to invoke Lawler's Law and a Scorpion Fatality and 3) basically gifting Houston the series because the Game 6 was so painful. The end result: the Warriors, the team the Clippets hated the most (because they created them), won the title; and DeAndre Jordan was lost to the Dallas Mavericks. For their best lost, look up the Clippers-Suns first road meeting of the season. This is also the game where Blake Griffin got ejected for two technical fouls.

I agree, it's not the answer you are looking for, but there was no "typical" game for us. If you want a true sense of who the Clippers are, you would need to watch a game with Blake, but because of his injuries and suspension, he only played in a handful of games once our roster was set as is. Earlier games will have Doc keeping Cole glued to the bench. The doghouse being shifted from one bench player to the other. And then those guys traded.

I would have to say, your best bet to see how our team plays is here in the playoffs. JJ Redick going off in the first quarter, random Hack a DJ, giving up leads, then Chris Paul coming in to take control and settle everything down. Plus, playoff Blake is different from regular season Blake, even if he's not near 100%.
