Modern Era Fantasy Draft Game: Sign-Ups

Welcome to the Modern Era Fantasy Draft Game!

I, PMOTT3, will be your commissioner and doing everything in my power to make sure this game is ran properly and smoothly. This is something that i thought would be fun while we wait around for the off-season and someone decides to run another GMAT. I will be touching on the rules later but for now i want to explain a few things.

First, this idea was inspired from the current version that is happening over on the PC board here http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=1440805

This version will be very similar with the exception of a few twists. I am going to need 16 total players to sign up for this game. We will not be using judges. When the draft is completed everyone will send me their rankings of who they felt had the best team and once I recieve everyone's rankings I will start the playoffs. After we have a crowned winner from the playoffs the game will be completed. No trades. No free agency. Just the draft, rankings, playoffs, and announcing the winner.

Draft Rules:

-Since this is a modern era draft, every player from the 2000-2001 to the 2015-2016 season will be available to be drafted. You can draft players that came into the league before 2000 but you must state the year you are taking with them--and that year can't be before 2000. For example, If I wanted I could choose to draft 2000-2001 Shaq with my first pick.

-You will have to draft 8 players (basically a playoff rotation) I don't think we need more than that. We'll have to find a way to give everybody some serious playing time, and it's hard to do it if you have 10 or 12 players on your team - with 8, you can still get a backup center, forward and guard, and give all of them more than 20 minutes of playing time (which is enough to make a significant impact).

-Your team as a whole will be allowed 85.0 FGA (that's 10.6 FGA per player). That's just slightly above what league-average in the 2015-16 regular season was (it was 84.6 FGA). The purpose of this is to encourage people to actually build a team and not have unrealistic collections of talent that have no chance of functioning well as a team.

-You must state the specific season of the player you choose to draft. You don't have to do it right away when you make your selection but you must state it on your team roster page (more on that later)

-We will be doing a snake draft.

-Players will get a maximum of a 6 hour window to make their selection in the draft. If they still have not chosen a player then they will be auto-drafted one by myself.

-We will be drafting coaches as well! Every coach from 2000-2001 to 2015-2016 is fair game. You don't need to state the specific seasons of coaches like you do with players. Only head coaches are available to draft and you only need to select one.

-Draft order will be completely randomized

-After you have made your selection, please quote the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock.

Team Roster Page Rules:

-Just like in GMAT, you will be responsible for creating a roster page of your fantasy team.

-Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page..
. Head Coach
. Players
. Rotations & minutes for playoffs
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 85.0 FGA

-All of the above must be completed before playoffs begin.

Playoff/Rankings Rules:

-After the draft has been completed, every single person must email me their rankings. The rankings need to be in order from best to worst, of which teams they feel are the best in their eyes. You can not rank your own team!

-These rankings will determine the seeds for playoffs. In order for a team to advance in the playofffs, they must recieve 5 votes. First team to recieve 5 votes first in their matchup will advance to the next round.

-After we have a winner in the playoffs the game will end!

Thanks for the heads up on this PMott. I'd definitely be interested in this. Interesting twist with limiting it to this century. Does keep me from getting bitter when someone scoops me on Russell tho....

Modern players is interesting. But because of a lesser talent pool overall especially at the top will make it hard for anyone picking out of the top 8 to win I think.

Yeah, being only 2000 forward really screws the late picks. 1990 may be better.

That's it! There are no more spots available. However, you are more than welcome to sign up but you will be listed as a reserve (in case some people decide to drop out mid game).
