DRose to NYK for Lopez/Grant & Calderon.

I don't see the value there unless Rose is less than 100%.

Rose to the Hawks would have been very interesting.

Only trumped in that Rose is a bigger name but he really hasn't been **** for over half a decade.

Bulls had to move on from rose.

Noah is leaving , so Lopez comes in (and Pau is gone).

Knicks get the PG PJ wants, and a big name. Plus its a contract year for rose, they can move on in a year. They could land Pau/Noah/Howard

Bulls just got a nice big, a rookie contract, and a somewhat servicable PG in Calderon. I defintely have some to crow to eat on this one because I thought Rose had negative value.

Rose's poor shooting wouldn't have worked well in Budz system. We already saw how much Mack struggled in it. Plus Rose has a huge contract and Hawks need cap going into this summer.

That is basically neutral to negative value but it's the Knicks, they will overpay for any name.

Officially it did, but there were rumors about it earlier.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Chicago needed his salary off their books so it won't continue to handicap them.
It's full rebuild mode for Chicago at this point with Butler being the player they possibly build around.
It's going to be interesting to watch how they proceed forward.

Rose was expiring, they actually took back an additional 30 mil in salary to move him but yea, it was time to move on because he would always feel entitled as the hometown-kid-face-of-the-franchise even if he hasn't been a player worth a damn in 5 years.

They'll have to make a choice between full rebuild or retool.

Butler will be 27 before the season begins. He's in his prime, too old for a lengthy full rebuild.

If they're going full rebuild, they'll have to trade Butler for picks and youth instead of wasting his prime. If they're keeping Butler, then they need to retool around him and be competitive.

Either way, it was time to move on from Rose.

Its a bad BASKETBALL deal IMO for the Knicks, but its a great MARKETING deal for the knicks.

1 year rental to sell some jerseys, tickets? They won the offseason, now all Ill hear for another 4 mnths is "IF ROSE CAN GET BACK TO MVP LEVEL........."

It suddenly becomes clear why Knicks traded for ROSE. His presence makes a great marketing recruiting tool for top players moving forward:

I doubt it'll work. But a ROSE/Carmelo/Porzingis core with Hornacek at the wheel should be very appealing.

The NY tabloids seem understandably skeptical:

This is all about adding a star to add a bigger star, Durant. This has been the Knicks way for years. And other than Amar'e helping the Knicks land Carmelo and Carmelo helping to land Jason Kidd, this plan has backfired.

Derrick hasn't been very good for a very long time though. I don't think he is appealing to play with as some might think.

Only benefit Rose would have done for ATL is ticket and jersey sales. Knicks lost in that trade.

Rose may not be the player he once was, but he would have put the media in Atlanta to follow him.

Phil Jackson basically had nothing to work with heading into the draft, so he made a move to get on the front page again and for the summer, convince others the Knicks could become relevant again.

Then again, would you rather have that Lakers' roster? I'd say Phil / Hornacek will have them back in the mix. If they get a Jodie Meeks type shooter who can stay healthy.....they might start making some noise.

I'd like for us to have had some kind of offer seeing that the Bulls underachieved last year.

There was absolutely no reason for us to make an offer for Derrick Rose. Front page news or not, he would not have made our team better, and there was no way I would've given anything of value for a past his prime player who would've destroyed our cap space.
