How far would current NBA Aussies take it in the NBA

Post#1 » by SlimShady83 » Fri Jun 24, 2016 9:38 am

I'm living in Sydney Australia and love it when the NBA drafts or selects Aussies into their teams and decided to create this thread.

With the Additions of Simmons and Thon Maker both making into top 10 < holy crap, didn't even know Maker was Aussie or maybe I forgot?

Here are 10 Aussies that will be in the NBA Next season

C: Andrew Bogut
PF: Cameron Bairstow
SF: Ben Simmons
PG: Patty Mills
PG: Dante Exum
SF: JOE Ingles
C/PF: Aron Baynes
PG: Mathey Dellavedova
PF: Brock Motum
C: Thon Maker

Imagine if this was a team in the NBA right now - How far do you guys think this team would go in the East or West??

Just a fun offseason thread and cheering for fellow Aussies :)

in my humble opinion, our current Lakers roster would fare better.

EDIT: forgot about kyrie. in that case, probably around the 8th seed.

Right off the bat you have a seriously long team with three guys (Bogut, Exum, Dellavedova) who can play excellent defence. Simmons will be a good defender and he will be an elite playmaker but that is several years off. I think Maker can become a very decent stretch 4 in the future and Patty Mills would be a very good spark off of the bench.

As a thought experiment, if we got each one of these players in their primes (not going to happen)

You'd be running

Bogut / Baynes / Maker / Motum
Maker / Simmons / Bairstow
Simmons / Ingles
Exum / Dellavedova / Mills
Dellavedova / Mills / Exum

You're looking at an 8 man rotation because Motum and Bairstow probably won't pan out in the NBA. Ingles is not that good of a player, in the NBA context, never was IMO.

You'd have a great defensive team that plays heavy minutes and relies on heavy usage from Mills, Simmons and Exum. It would look a lot like the current Hawks, without the elite perimeter shooting. Maker is the biggest question mark in this equation, because he has tools to be a big time player, but he should have stayed in college a few years to develop his interior game.

+1 Cody :) couldn't agree more. If only we could put a Prime A.Gaze and S.Heal in that mix we would be in the running for 8th seed in the east I recon with those two.

I just got excited about our Aussies being in top 10 and being a Friday and having a couple drink I thought why not haha.

I honestly think that team as presently constructed could win 40 games in the east. The defense would be damn incredible if they could just beef up the bench a bit.

Would be the worst team in the league by far, god forbid bogut gets hurt they would be historically bad. Simmons has tons of potential but rookies, especially high usage rookies, always have negative impact.

This team would be a lottery team. Most of the talent is young and there isn't any depth to balance it out. Yeah this team would really such.
