J.R. Smith

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Sun Jul 3, 2016 7:55 am

Hawks should get JR Smith.

Cavs are already over 100 million in salaries and they still need to sign a starting center and back up point guard. Smith needs to get a big pay day because he is already 31yr and took a pay cut last year.

Adding Smith would add a great shooter and a vet with playoff experience.

Trade Tiago and Thabo for a 2nd round pick. Keep Scott and resign Hump cheap. Offer 12-15 million per year to JR Smith

Smith defense is just as good as Thabo's defense

Dwight/Hump/Tavares
Millsap/Scott
JR Smith/Korver
Baze/Hardaway
Schroeder/TBA

His defense is a tier below Thabo's, but he's a better player overall due to his offense.

I'd be on board with the plan if it was feasible. Humphries has 8 teams interested in him, no way he comes for cheap.

If that is the case, then retaining Scott becomes more important.

JR Smith or Wade???

Hawks make a few trade and clear alittle bit of cap and then makes one more big move to finish off the off season?

Sign Wade or Smith to a big 2 year Rondo type of deal. Maybe 35-50 million for 2 years for one of the two?

Atlanta over pays for a vet who can contribute in the playoffs and add more spacing for Dwight and Millsap. Although they are over pay, its only a short term deal and their salary would roll off the same time Millsap came off the books and Atlanta could still make an offer to Cousins or Favors in 2018

This is a total win it all now move, but with a built in exit or built in self destruct mechanism in 2018

You'd have to do a lot of maneuvers to get to Wade's price tag. Heard he's in the 18-20 range?

JR Smith I want nothing to do with.

Still a pipe dream. You have 3.8 in cap space right? Splitter is 8, you still need 6-8 million more.

I'd rather look at getting waiters over jr Smith

We have about 9M in cap space if we renounce Scott, Muscala and Patterson.
If we trade Splitter for nothing, it makes 17.5M of room

Then who's our backup C and PF.

In any case, we can get one.
Even if we keep Muscala and Patterson, but cut Scott, we can absorb Diaw for example, and we still have Splitter.
If we trade Splitter, it makes more money, but it would be all used for a big, and it would have been enough to get Gasol

From my math, the Hawks are currently at 87 million in salary. if they trade away and renounce Tiago, Thabo, and Scott, it will put them at 72 million and giving them 23 million in cap.

If the Hawks want, they could matching Miami's offer of 40 million for two years and Wade might pick Atlanta over Miami to go to a contender, and Wade might also pick Atlanta's 40 million over the Nuggets 50 million because Wade doesn't want to go to a lottery rebuilding team.

Dumping all this salaries would be a "Win Now" move for the Hawks.

I was OK to loose Splitter to get Diaw, because he can play C, but loosing Splitter to get Wade leave us without good backup C.

I was hoping to get back Hump for cheap. I have Hump > Splitter.

I think torpedoing your backup C/SF/PF for an aging Wade is bad business.

Nene could also be had for cheap. He is kind of slipping in the NBA market and now seen as a back up

Great pickup by Houston.
Nene was cheap like you said.
