Even if he stays there was an open roster spot, we're at 15 now, counting him in

I don't mind it at all, he tries on defense and is another option at backup SF, and he's the 15th man, so a player just for depth purposes is good enough for that.

I like this signing. He is a guy who can shoot and defend enough for a backup spot

Out of all available wings, Anderson was at the top of my list. If healthy, he could get some nice mins. There may be times when he'll play more than Luc or Wes.

Alan Anderson Signs With Clippers, Sees “Something Special”

“I turned down a lot of offers because they weren’t the best fit for me,” Anderson said. “The Clippers were actually the strongest team from Day 1, even though they didn’t have what I thought I was worth. They were the most loyal – the most consistent – and I just feel more comfortable with these guys.”

In total, Anderson says he knows about half the Clippers’ roster well, and he likes what he sees.

“I see something special,” Anderson said, “and just want to be a part of it.”

It's really going to be about how Doc is able to use all these guys. I really don't know where the minutes are going to be for everyone. Will the minutes of guys like Jamal be going down?

Paul (33) / Felton (12) / Rivers (3)
Redick (28) / Rivers (14) / Crawford (6)
Mbah (15) / Johnson (11) / Crawford (14) / Anderson (8)
Griffin (34) / Bass (10) / Johnson (4)
Jordan (32) / Speights (12) / Bass (4)

Let's just imagine that was the rotation, you are playing 12 guys on the average night, which is a lot to balance. The minutes would be:

Griffin 34
Paul 33
Jordan 32
Redick 28
Crawford 20
Rivers 17
Mbah 15
Johnson 15
Bass 14
Speights 12
Felton 12
Anderson 8 or Pierce 8

If it is Pierce he would get the 4 minutes Johnson gets at PF, Johnson plays 4 more at SF, and Pierce gets another 4 minutes at SF which I don't even know if he can play. Still, Pierce is just playing 8 mpg. Realistically we'll probably see a couple of guys rotating out of DNP-CD, and I really hope all the players are aware of this.

Feels similar to what happened last off-season. Doc got plaudits for the moves he made despite a lack of flexibility, but the best move ended up being one of the afterthought vet min guys in Cole Aldrich. Would've killed for the Alan Anderson from the Nets the year they got Pierce and KG, but that was 2 years ago and without consecutive ankle surgeries, so we'll see.

I don't think Brice is gonna be in the rotation to start the season, I doubt Anderson is either. And probably Felton and one of Speights/Bass are barely gonna be on it at the start. Doc likes short rotations and familiarity, specially at the start of seasons. Then he starts figuring stuff out, but he does take some time and assumes few risks until he has to.

Seriously, it's almost become a pattern that we have 1-2 player getting cut or traded a couple of months into the season.

Oh Brice has no chance from how I see it. If Felton is going to be a DNP-CD, that seems like a very odd signing for a 3rd PG. Did they really pitch to Felton that he would be the 3rd PG and he agreed? Felton is a guy who is a 2nd string PG, a guy like Pablo or like Andre Miller, etc, yea, I can understand pitching him 3rd PG and them being fine with it.

This is why I'm always wondering what the players are being told when they are signed because it seems like there's conflicting information like we saw with Smith, then with Farmar before, and even to some degree with Stephenson.

it'll be speights and/or felton.

doc will be flabbergasted when jamal crawford gets decimated by lebron 1v1 and wonder why those guys couldn't cover for the matchup.

i'm not joking

yeah i brought that stuff up in the felton signing thread i think. i find it extremely unlikely felton came here with the intentions of being the rarely used 3rd string PG and that he was told he'd have a greater role than that.

yet that's pretty much what happened with many other FA's who've come here and fallen for doc rivers' swindle song.

You do realize Doc will probably run a 3 guard bench lineup of Felton/Austin/Jamal with Bass and Speights, right? I can totally see it happening.
