How long until the Wiz blow it up?

Post#1 » by Alex DeLarge » Tue Nov 8, 2016 3:16 am

The Wiz can't continue on this path for much longer. Surely Wall and/or Beal will be moved before the end of the season.

A package of Beal + stuff could be enough to land Boogie (particularly with Sacto on the verge of another sunken season - their schedule in the coming weeks is horrendous). The problem is it's going to be difficult to move Gortat for something the Kings would also want, as it seems like every other team has a big man.

Beal + change for Boogie isn't "blowing it up" -- at least, not for the Wizards. The *Kings* would be blowing it up.

A Wizards "blow it up" trade would be Wall or Beal for, say, a package of young players and picks from the Celtics or Sixers.

Wall/Beal to Philly is an intriguing idea.

Wall will be the first to go. He is our biggest trade piece- great player on a very team friendly deal. We should be able to get a top sevenish pick for him. Once he's gone Gortat, Morris, Porter, Sato will go. Beal is probably here for the long haul due to his terrible deal and we probably keep Oubre since he is still young and in development.

Whenever it does happen, let's pray you know who isn't the one in charge of the blowup/rebuild.

Wall, Gortat and Morris are the only tradable pieces. Beal has negative value and Porter is a soon-to-be-overpaid free agent.

In reality, Wall is really the only guy who would bring value in return. Gortat is solid, but nobody is in dire need of a center. For Gortat to have value, a contender needs to have their center get hurt.

But the bottom line is that there is no chance the Wizards blow anything up this year. They certainly aren't trading Wall. They're going to give Brooks at least 1 full season to put his imprint on this team. The only conceivable trade would be one involving Gortat, assuming Mahinmi gets healthy and plays well.

Its time to blow it up. There will be the 4 game win streak right before the trade deadline that will tease us. So, before that happens, we need to blow it up. Wall will get us the most. I would expect at least 2 1st rnd picks with one in the top 7, and a couple 2nds + a good backup player. Gortat is next to be traded. I'd expect one 1st rnd pick plus a good backup player. We are keeping Morris. We are keeping one of Oubre or Porter. Ourbe or Porter will net us another 1st rnd pick and a good backup. In the end, we should have at least four 1st rnd picks and a couple of 2nd rnd picks. We will also have a decent bench with 3 good backup players to go with the players we currently have left on the team.

Gortat is near the top of my wishlist for Boston (well, the shorter-term "bandaid" wishlist, anyway). Have you seen our rebounding situation? Our bigman rotation after Horford? What do you think you guys would realistically be expecting back in trade for him?

The time to blow it up was last year at the trade deadline.

I'm not a fan of Cousins, but at this point the Wizards don't really have anything to lose.

What's working against the Wizards is Beal predictably falling short of expectations. He's getting paid a ton of money for average production, and there's no way I make a deal with the Kings that includes Otto Porter.

Sadly, including Porter in a deal for Cousins is exactly the kind of move I'd expect from Grunfeld.

A package that would be more to my liking would be something like Beal/Gortat/Oubre for Cousins/Temple/McLemore, and as much as I'd hate to do it, I might throw in a protected first rounder.

Prideful owner could move the team.

The GM has thrown many coaches under the bus.

Wittman and Eddie Jordan maintained pretty good team chemistry. I will give Brooks time.

Unfortunately for Scott Brooks Ernie Grunfeld has given him a crappy roster. THE same thing he did to other coaches in the past as well.

BRING BACK THE TANK!

It's well past time to blow it all up -- the SMART move would have been letting Beal walk in the offseason rather than paying him like a top-20 player (when he's replacement level.)

Bottom out, start over. We're in that Bucks-esque limbo-land around 35-42 wins, barely competing to get blown out in the first round of the playoffs, AT BEST. This year looks like a total hole based on the absolutely abhorrent play of the bench and the lack of improvement from Beal. BURN IT TO THE GROUND, SALT THE EARTH.

I'd trade Gortat for a pick in the top half of the first round. I don't see Boston giving up one of their Brooklyn picks, but maybe that 2019 Memphis pick might make sense. Gasol and Conley will be pretty long in the tooth by then and they might not be playoff contenders.

Amen brother sash. Maybe not full-on Philly - but in that realm. And yes - including Wall - because we can get a high pick plus a good young player for him - and it's really not fair to Wall to keep him here (besides, he'll be unhappy - causing his value to decrease). Not to mention - this draft appears to be strongest at PG. Tanking gets us a second top 5 pick. Try to get a mid first for Gortat. Beal... he may or may not have trade value. By the offseason, he might build up some trade value. Play that by ear - as some team might see more value than most of us see.

The local media is now turning forcefully against EG. Once that happens, there's real pressure to make a move. Realistically, I think change will happen around the all-star break.

I'm all for that. The fact that it eventually resolves to being unprotected adds to its long-term value. But the Celtics have to give us something back to make the salaries match, right? Jerebko's $5 million expiring isn't enough. Would they do Zeller?

Philly certainly looks like a possible trade partner for either of them. They got the pick(s), and they got young talent.
