Do we need a better point guard?

Post#1 » by Pops Maellard » Sun Nov 20, 2016 11:02 am

I understand that we wanted a defensive point guard and we ended up with Payton but in this current day and age we need a point guard who can actually shoot and put up 20 points + a night and with they way our lack of offence currently is..should we move him on and get a point guard who can score?

No, we are fine. Our offense is great. I love watching it.

Do we need a better point guard?

No.

Orlando's depth at PG is great.

Easily yes. If we want to compete sooner than later that is.

And this is coming from a huge Payton fan that thinks he has put in a lot work this offseason.

As I said in another thread, we're a Bledsoe or for the sake of the matter Jrue Holiday trade away from actually being a serious competitive playoff team. Both players that could be got IMHO

DJ Augustin is better than Payton. A tweak in the lineup would do wonders for us, with DJ starting and either Ibaka or Biz at the 5

Why does the PG need to score and put up 20ppg? We need that at ANY position. We need that player, but why can't it be a SG, SF, PF or C? Like every other player in our starting lineup is just cemented and safe?

We need guys who stop playing selfish and have their own agendas.

DJ
Elfrid
AG
Ibaka
Biyombo

Would be fine with me. Play the guys who consistently play hard.

Just bench Fournier **** it.

Yeah. Payton is never really going to be the starter on a good team. Everyone in the NBA could have told you that but Rob apparently. We should be tanking for Fultz. This team is so depressing

I think so. I think knight, Bledsoe, and holiday could all be had.

Vuc/Payton for holiday/hield works for both teams and then we go small

Holiday
Hield
Fournier
Gordon
Ibaka

With augustin/Meeks/Hezonja/green/biyombo off the bench
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.

cant agree. We have much more issues than just getting Bledsoe. We have no reliable SF, very little outside shooting.

I don't think we can start Biz and Payton and Biz needs to be starting so that means we start DJ, and get green out of there why we are at it.

It's not merely just having a scoring PG though; it's having one that's a threat to score so that:

1. The floor spacing is better.
2. The PG can score whenever our other guys have scoring droughts, in order to keep us in the game.

Right now Payton provides none of that. His game does not fit this team. Not only that, his effort and focus seem to appear and disappear depending on the game.

We need a change.

DJ isn't the answer -- but we need someone LIKE him who's of starter quality. Easier said than done, of course. But we're in dire need of a legit starting PG.
