The drama surrounding the release of excerpts from GK's book has the Nuggets in the spotlight the past 24hrs.
Folks around here are still sour about the way Melo left but looking at how Lebron left (twice) and KD left at least Melo gave the FO a chance to trade him. Not only did he have the right to choose where he wanted to work but leaving GK was surely a desire of his too.
I like how the old gang has banded together against George and his over the line comments. I listened to what Barkley had to say last night and he made a good point. When GK was hired Melo was like 20-21, K-Mart maybe 24-26 and when JR came around he was early 20's as well. Part of being a coach is being somewhat of a father figure and GK was far from that. Sure the players had they're faults...but they were kids with millions, you could find that all around the league.
I loved how GK bashed Melo for his D and then Kenyon tweeted that GK never coached D so why's he bashing Melo for not fully devoting himself on that side of the ball.
The 2000's Nuggets were great, it's too bad they're being brought up in this light.

Honestly, while I see some points against Karl, I think his statements were most likely very accurate and honest. Melo is smart to not say anything and look like a fool when most realize what was said about him was and still for the most part is true.
As for Kenyon, his response is pretty much on point with how you would have expected him to respond. That's Kenyon's character and to call him out on things could only lead to him retaliating. That was part of his game that made him a good piece to the team when he was healthy. That being said, Kenyon was probably the worst deal in franchise history and shows that the front office really didn't do a great job on constructing a team with personalities in mind. Until Chauncey, these character issues and maturity problems showed clearly with the teams results. That obviously wasn't Karl's strong suite in coaching and showed why they never got past just being a very talented team.
A story that I heard from some bartenders who use to serve them at The Treo in Lone Tree was that they were partying until like 4 in the morning, all just wasted for a party that Kenyon was holding. The next night they set the franchise record of points in a game against the Sonics. So they apparently could get away with that sort of thing, but definitely wouldn't help if that was the regular the night before games.
I obviously enjoyed watching those teams but it seems pretty clear in retrospect, especially with this stuff that most of the rumors behind the scenes were probably true.

I gotta say, all these hot takes from people that don't know a damn thing about those Nuggets teams has been really annoying to me. My opinion of Karl went back and forth multiple times during his time here, but I'm inclined to take his side on this. I can see how the quote about Melo/Kmart not having fathers crosses the line, but that was clearly taken out of context and all the other excerpts that have leaked seem perfectly valid to me.
The weird thing is that all these guys coming out and bashing Karl actually played under him together on the most successful team in Nuggets history. He clearly couldn't have been all that bad, he just has an ego that's every bit as inflated as these diva players. He can't help but burn every single bridge he's ever crossed.
