So we lose games we should win, and win games we should probably lose. I can't figure this team out.

Yes, for multiple reasons. I don't mind to be wrong though, but only a ring can make me feel wrong about it.

That is the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard on this message board. So we should have traded Reggie? You realize we have never won an NBA title but it makes you right about trading PG if he doesn't win one?? I try and be respectful of all posters on here but that is the dumbest comment I've ever read. :banghead: :banghead:

Reggie who?

No, you remembered I want to trade Paul George. You are a smart fellow, so it is possible you might still remember it when Paul George has stellar performances for the Pacers again in the future. I'm just hinting you that it takes a whole lot more than 4 30 points games to make me admit I was wrong.

The reason I want to trade PG isn't even restricted to his potential alone. His teammates, his GM, I don't see their potential as high enough either. My feelings towards trading a player, are bigger than player A or player B or the one you call Reggie.

IMO teams should build a contending team on the strongest possible foundations. Where would I look for them?
In the draft. The Pacers have one superb foundation in PG and one exploring foundation in Turner.
Everyone else? Acquired in trade, signed or not in the rotation.
But the Pacers don't get any of the real good free agents and a trade can only happen when the other team sees the benefit of it too. Sure, the Pacers got Teague and Young but they also had to give up George Hill and their pick. The gain you get with trades is more often than not, significantly smaller than picking the right players in the draft. The lower the Pacers pick, the less I believe in their chances to find someone who sticks around.

Golden State and San Antonio have build their teams while having more than 2 hits in the draft. Lebron teams have picked Lebron.
To me, this has a lot more to do with future options than Paul George himself. Which big name free agent is going to come to Indianapolis? How many studs have the Pacers drafted below pick 20? As long the Pacers have PG, they will keep drafting around pick 20 or lower, but IMO they should have started their way to contention with having some more picks around 10 or higher.
That's just my way of building a roster. Unless your scouting department is one of the best in the league.

In his attempt to build a contender, Larry has traded a lot of our picks or the players he drafted with them.
He has been pulling the trigger on trades until he has come to a point where he has to sit back and tell hemself, hmm, teams aren't calling me back anymore for making trades to get one of my players. They keep asking about PG and Turner.

I'll take my hat off for you if you can trade Young, Ellis, Stuckey, Jefferson, Miles and get a very good player in return, but honestly I don't see why other teams should see what we don't see in them. Sure, we can hope the Pacers draft themselves a stud in the second round of the draft or some lost star player accidently signs a contract with the Pacers, but it is against the odds and 1 might not even be enough.

I don't see enough ways to improve this team, besides ripping off another team in a trade or convincing a player the weather is always nice in Indiana. The teams going up against the Heat had better foundations (PG, Granger, Hibbert, Lance, even Hansbrough) and David West, whose value had gone down after that torn ACL, and they still came up short.

If the Pacers had traded PG in the beginning of the season, they could have added multiple lottery picks/players to build a core around Turner, including their own lottery pick this season. The veterans, who have lots of firepower but little efficiency, would have prevented that they would be a bottom 5 team. Nobody knows what could have been if Reggie was traded, because it simply didn't happen. So to claim that it was absolutely without any doubt the right thing to do, to hold on to Reggie, is for the most part a sentimental feeling, not a wisdom. I'm from Belgium, watching NBA on teletext in Reggie's Pacer days. I don't get attached to any Pacer so ya, I might have traded him, if I would have thought it was better for the team.

Reggie was a more natural born killer though. He likes pressure and found himself illegal ways to get calls by kicking his feet out.
While PG wants to be friends with Lebron, gets called as favorite player by Durant and whines because refs don't call fouls on him.
Big personalities are valuable, so there is also a chance I might have never wanted to trade him. Or not too many times, just to gauge his value on the trade board. Trading is fun :P

I don't think it is worth the gamble. But anyways we'll agree to disagree on this topic. Have a good day and Go Pacers!
