Nuggets' Lineups

We've heard about the problems with all of the Nuggets various lineups. There are other teams that have had more issues than the Nuggets - teams like San Antonio & Utah. Both of whom have had 25+ lineups. Yet they are both doing just fine.

I spent a little time analyzing the chart from that link. I did not double check my work but ... :

3 centers: Jokic-Nurkic-Plumlee with Plumlee only starting 2 games
5 PFs: Faried - Arthur 4- Jokic 3 - Plumlee 3 - Hernangomez 1
4 SFs: Gallinari - Chandler 4 - Hernangomez 4 - Barton 2
4 SGs: Harris - Barton 7 - Nelson 2 - Murray 2
3 PGs: Mudiay - Nelson - Murray 2

So functionally speaking:
Just 2 centers --- mostly 1 PF --- mostly 1 SF --- mostly 1 SG --- mostly 2 PGs ---- 7 major starters, that's all

I really don' have a dog in this argument as injuries are a major part of the rotation problems, but this article ignores or glosses over several other issues in the lineups. Saying the many different starting lineups was caused mostly by injuries is only partially true. The problem is it ignores the fact that several players have come back healthy only to have lost their job due to an injury. It also ignores that Pf has been a constantly changing rotation, Malone has tried Jokic, Faried, Chandler, Arthur, Faried, Chandler, and now back to Faried with Faried losing his job due to injury every time but not getting it back until someone else got injured. The other thing it ignores is the bench issues, he constantly was changing the front court lineup all season, some games Chandler played more at SF others almost all his minutes at PF, sometimes Faried would play big minutes at PF and C the next 5 minutes total, Arthur may play 15 minutes or may not play at all, Nurkic may have played or may not. Now the rotation overall seems to be settling down but it is really only the last few games at PF, and really with the bench since the trade deadline or so. I have never really complained much about the rotation as much as the roles some guys were playing, and the personnel issues.

You're missing Chandler's starts at PF.

We're seeing more of that Harris SF line-up... I wish Malone would just stagger Harris instead.

Yup, missed that one - but the point is, a lot of these lineup changes were because Malone was changing them for no apparent reason other than he can't decide what works, after nearly two years and that was a part of what the article said.

That only started at the end of the season, unlike last year when Malone had Foye (then Augustin) & Nelson plus Mudiay, all on the floor at the same time many times throughout the year. Last year he was 6'4" & under at three spots a lot. This year with Mudiay not playing so much and Nelson/Harris being the only veterans, he has seldom gone to a 3 guard lineup.
